Does anyone know what precautions need to be taken for PRK laser eye surgery if you have a mechanical valve and are on warfarin? PRK is not as invasive as LASIK...however, it does require you to go on a few antibiotic drops for 2-3 months post op. I'm just thinking longer term down the road after I get my AVR done. Just curious if warfarin presents any complications or not - both during and after the surgery. I didn't see much on line on this and have not contacted my eye surgeon's office yet - figured the people here may know more than most! Anyone been through PRK after AVR (w/warfarin)?
Thanks,
T

Not sure if it's apples to apples, but I had cateracs removed from both eyes with outpatient surgery two years ago with no problem and no warfarin dosing disruption. I had to use some anti-biotic eye drops for a short time with no effect on INR.
