Interesting news today.. President Bush is visiting the Limerick Nuclear Plant today.. which is in my backyard, so to speak.. whether you like him or not, pretty cool having the President visit... until I have to drive home with rumors of the highway being shut down around the same time.. oh well..

have a great day ya'll

Chris

About time he wrecks someone elses neighborhood! He's been here a couple times and the airport is 2 miles from my house, so they close my whole world off starting just down the street. Then I have to put up with low flying military helicopters with snipers on board leaning out and other really unwanted ( Men in Black) things.

I work in a very posh area that has a lot of fund raisers so the President is in this area a lot. Since I work at a fire station, there is always a number of paramedics and firefighters that are on duty at the functions. It gets pretty exciting when you hear about the secret service calling for the fire chief. Not that I am privy to anything that goes on but the excitement is there nonetheless.

That is very exciting! I think that politicians and media make such a full time job of ripping apart whoever holds the office now that they make you feel like you can't be excited over the possibility of seeing the person who holds, or has held, the most powerful political office in the world.

My daughter is working on a bill involving childhood obesity with a rep in Michigan. They are going to be trying to get some heavy hitters onboard, including Bill Clinton. Now my daughter will give you a laundry list of why she disagrees with fmr. Pres. Clinton, but she is thoroughly excited about possibily getting the chance to meet him. And that is as is should be. He was the Pres. of the United States! (And knowing my daughter, she just might give him her laundry list. )

Schwenksville

Schwenksville

Whether you like him or not I guess it is pretty cool that he is coming to the area. I see that you live in Pottstown which is very near Limerick. I used to live in Schwenksville. Just a hop skip and a jump away. I used to work at Phoenixville Hospital when I lived in PA. My hubby works for a pharmaceutical company. He was transferred to VA which is why we had to move. Our entire family is still in PA. We actually just visited and took a drive by our old house. Things really look different now compared to when we lived there. We moved back in 1997.

Take Care!
Gail

I'm telling you all right now, if you lived here, you would not welcome him or Mr. Shotgun. They come here so much and disrupt life so much that it's a headache.

Gina, so what do you do at the firehouse.. I grew up in one.. Father was a volunteer from day one and worked up thru ranks to become chief.. now he's the township fire marshal.. I think i was the first one in elementary school to know what a scott pack was..(sp?)

Gail - cool, another local (albeit former) - yep, I live in the great town of Pottstown.. (sarcasism) ok, yes I love my town, but after living in dallas for 12 years and coming back - well, let's just say, not much for the single person.. but growing up here and yes it has changed quite a bit.. I still get upset when I see historical (at least in my mind, not necessarily officially) buildings torn down because they want to put a WAWA or widen the road. I love old buildings, my dream home would be a old stone farm house which I could clean up and preserve.. and I know where Schwenksville and Pheonixville Hospital are.. on my way into work today, there was a wreck on 422 near Armand Hammer - so after crawling for 30 minutes to get the next exit available.. i ended up taking 724 and then thru Spring City to get back on the highway..

long but enjoyable ride..

thanks for the flashbacks..

Chris

I think having the Prez arrive in a rather small (ours is @ 110,000) town post 9/11 is a major issue. There was always hoopla around here (I remember Nixon, Carter and Bush I coming through or visiting); but having Bush II last year was a massive undertaking. I guess it must have been because he gave a speech outside; they basically closed down most of the downtown area; including several banks, an insurance company, one of the hospitals (except for the trauma center), state government, etc. etc. And anyone who lived downtown was told they couldn't look out their windows and there were sharpshooters and if they saw them looking out their windows at the Prez they'd shoot them (this ain't gossip; this comes from some of the warnees).

You can have him (and any succeeding presidents), Ross (I know, you don't want them, either).

It's a pain the the *** even in a big city. I was stuck on the expressway for 2 hours one time when it was shut down so VP Gore's motorcade could get to O'Hare.

Right now I only do accounting work but I am studying for my EMT certificate and maybe on to Paramedic training. It's a really fun place to work and very exciting even if I don't go on runs now.

I agree it can be a pain to have the President coming in from a traffic standpoint. I used to work next to the Greater Cincinnati Airport (in Kentucky - go figure).  :D Many times we couldn't even get to work when the roads were closed. Other times, we saw Air Force One landing as the approach path was right over our building. I still get excited even with the annoyances.
