I had my mitral valve replaced with a mechanical valve 4 weeks ago and was hoping to chat with someone who has a mechanical valve & also has had a baby. I just got married in October and we consulted with a high risk OBGYN prior to the operation but wanted to hear about it first hand.

Hi, Ticky. Welcome to our wonderful site. As far as I know, there is a member named Willow who has gone through a pregnancy with a mechanical valve and is currently going through the second. Her husband, Anthony, has posted a few times. Here is a link to his first post:

We have another member named Karen (Karen7) who has posted that she is going through a first pregnancy with a mechanical valve as well. Her post explaining the situation is number 10 on the following link:

Best of luck to you, and again, welcome to the site.

Hi Ticky welcome,
I saw in your profile you also have LupusAnticoagulant/Anticardiolipin Antibody and was wonderring if that would play a role in the pregnancy also. Good luck w/ everything you've had alot going on with the wedding and surgery, I hope you are able to get some good answers, Lyn

And that is precisely why I had Ticky post this in this forum. We need Al in on this, it's far out of my grasp.

Ticky,

There is another site that you need to go to www.apsfa.org
This is a good place for people with clotgting disorders. They have a hematologist, Dr. Tom Ortel of Duke University who advises the site about the medical information posted there. Many of the other APS sites are just gripe sessions and do nothing of a positive nature for the people who frequent them.

You have made the right step in contacting a high-risk OB doc. Please feel free to e-mail me with any specific questions that you have.
