Got a date set for preliminary testing on May 14th and surgery scheduled for May 25th. Going to have the mitral valve repaired ( hopefully) and maze proceedure for A-Fib. The surgen does 6 to 8 a week and 350 to 400 a year, looked at TEE and is pretty confident he can repair it, hope so!!!! Not looking forward to the operation at all, but know it needs to be done.( known about the leaking valve since 2000 and they have ben monitering it). Its getting through the next six weeks to the big day that is going to be hard. Thanks, Gordie

Gordie,

It is good to have a date because now you have something to plan around. This is the hard part...........the WAIT. Take this time and do some of the stuff that will make it easier when you are recoving. Clear your calender for a few weeks afterwards and it won't be all that long until you are over the mountain and telling us about your experiences. We are with you in this.

Gordie,
Welcome! It's always nice to hear a new voice and I think you'll be very happy to have found this site. Actually, the worst part for me was the waiting for a date which you've already got under your belt. Being a planner, organizer type, the next six weeks I was in my element and busy making arrangements, stockpiling books to read, doing an early Spring cleaning, buying a treadmill and getting all my gear together. My husband teased me that he'd never seen anyone practice to be a shut-in before. At any rate, all the information and support I got from these fine people helped me prepare for the big event and I credit them for the confidence and positive mind set I had for the surgery itself and my recovery. Some have experienced a few snafus along the way but many of us have been pleasantly surprised that the recovery was much easier than we'd expected. We're here to encourage, inform, support and cajole, if needed, so stay plugged in and post as often as you'd like.....there's always someone ready to offer a response.
Sue
