Hello,
It is me again.. Time is starting to get short.Next week at this time, I should be fighting that ventilator. :) I went to the dentist today, had my teeth cleaned, at least the few I have left. :D She took X-rays so I am fine there.
My first pre-op appointment is at 11:00 tomorrow. At least they are letting me sleep late. I am not looking forward to the blood gases test, other than that, it sounds pretty harmless. Except that anything related to this surgery gets me on edge. I have an hour and a half for lunch between the tests. Beats the 30 minutes I get at work.
The papers they sent me do not say that I have to have an empty stomach for the blood work, so I assume it is okay to eat breakfast. I did not think of asking.
Thank you all for all the responses and encouragement.

Praline,

Good luck tomorrow. I am sure the anticipation is worse than the tests. Don't remember mine so I can't answer the food issue. Maybe you should call the hospital in the morning before you eat to make sure.

Take care.

I didn't have to fast before all my pre-op work. As far as the blood tests go, the only things they explained to me was that they were doing an AIDS test and final blood typing (in case I needed a transfusion). Pretty easy stuff. Be prepared to wait as you walk from office to office for all the different appointments.

Oh, it pays to read the directions

Oh, it pays to read the directions

I just looked at that appointment paper again and next to LAB it says "NONFT" so I assume that means non fasting.

I would guess, too, that NONFT means "non fasting", but ya never know. I would still call the hospital in the morning before you eat ... just in case.

I vaguely remember being "hungry" during my pre-op appointment and believe I did have to fast the morning of the pre-op ... but, the last surgery was in 2003, so I may not be remembering it very well ;).
