All Aussie members should be OK

All Aussie members should be OK

The Cyclone hit the far north east coast of Australia near Cairns. It was the first Cyclone in about 10 years to hit a populated area of the east coast. It was a fairly stiff breeze about 270 kph. There was a significant amount of damage but no reports of any deaths. I am approx 3500 kilometres south of there. As far as I know none of our members come from that area so unless they were on holiday there all should be OK. :)

It's good to know that none of our Aussie friends should have been affected. I was wondering about all of you today.

Hi, as an aussie I appreciate everyone's concern :) I'm from Melbourne also (hi, Old Man Emu), but reading the reports in today's papers there seems to have been no loss of life in far north Queensland - just heaps of very destructive property damage :(

about220mph??

about220mph??

Thats good-news. Property can be repaired and replaced.
I used to think nothing ever happened to Australia. But when my uncle died it was said that he was one of eight men in his company that survived a battle in New Guinea. I checked the map and realized that the Japenese were quite close to Australia from a number of places. Must have made a nervous wreck of a lot of its citizens. cheers

No Bananas or sugar-cane left standing...thats what copped the worst of the cyclone...

The far north town of Innisfail where my cousin lives is one of the most devastated areas...luckily her hubby is the local bank-manager and they were all safely inside the bank for the whole ordeal....we have spoken with her and she is fine...they even had time to bring their good mattresses from home to the bank so they could sleep comfortably through the cyclone!:D

Its a big mess up there but thankfully no-one was killed and there is just lots of water and flattened banana trees and cane-sugar everywhere and the usual tin-roofs and stuff strewn around...

They now have another cyclone headed their way in about 1-2 days from the latest reports...
