Everyone,

So much for my pre-op nerves! I managed to catch an intestinal bug, spent Monday evening and night on the commode, missed my pre-op tests Tuesday morning, called the surgeon to let him know what was going on, and consequently postponed my surgery. The surgeon and I were in 100% agreement on postponing. My tentative new date is March 26, though I'm still waiting to get confirmation of that from the surgeon's office.

I truly don't mind postponing. My gut is very sore and sensitive, I'm on a "bland and binding" diet, and I'm drinking lots and lots of fluid. I definitely don't want to be recovering from OHS right now. I also don't want to take any bugs with me into surgery or the hospital! Fortunately, my heart's condition allows for a little delay. Also, I didn't quite have time to finish all the things I wanted to get finished before surgery, so now I have another month to work on them. I've promised myself I won't add any more items to my "to do" list.

Ah, Dale. Sorry to hear about the nasty bug. It's always something, isn't it? Reminds me of that line from the movie Major Payne "Want me to take your mind off of that pain, soldier?"

And now you have some time to finish up that list of projects. I read your post and it's quite an undertaking for anyone! The chores should keep your focus away from the surgery.

That's a bummer! Hope you're feeling better soon.

Cheers
Anna : )

Dale:

Sorry you've acquired a nasty bug and have a delay in surgery. You get psyched up to a point and then, bam! (as Emeril says) you have to wait a little longer.
At least you'll be feeling better in another couple of days and will have more time to get things done around the house. By the time you get out of the hospital, weather will be better than now for all those walks in the neighborhood.

Never question the whys of it, just accept it and know that it will proceed in its own due time.

Get well will ya? :)

okay. we understand this time. But if it happens again, we will be wondering about you. :) :D

I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Marsha,

I've always said I'd like to be able to spend more time outdoors in the Spring. Looks like I'll get my chance!

Ross,

I'm not asking, "Why," I already know: I live in close proximity to a four-year-old girl who loves goodnight kisses and had a similar bug last week, but her doting father forgot a few times and kissed her on the mouth!

Bethanne,

If it happens again, I'll be wondering about me too. If it weren't for the fact of my daughter's illness, I'd swear I'd just conjured the whole thing up out of nerves! Of course, if that was the case, the symptoms should have disappeared once the surgery was postponed, but they haven't...

Dale,

I'm sorry that you had to postpone, but it sounds like you are okay with it. I hope you are feeling well soon.

Dale,

Sorry your plans were thrown off, but going in sick would definitely not be a propitious start!

I know you will use the time well. Ask your doctor what you can take (and for how long) to try to stay healthy; i.e., viamin C, echinacea, zinc supplements, etc. I know they're not proven or anything, but it will help you feel like you're trying to stay well, and may just help!

March 26th

March 26th

Hi Dale, every cloud has a silver lining! Can you imagine if you'd got sick at the hospital eg: in intensive care? So, just take the chance to finish what you have to do, but don't overdo it for your surrgery date has only been postponed and not cancelled, See you around, Débora

Dale,

I think you and your surgeon made the right decision.

My last day of work is March 2nd and I'm having my cath on March 3rd. Then I'm lying low till my surgery on the 17th. I will spend a few more days after my cath at home getting everything in order, then heading to NC to spend some time eating home cooked meals and taking it easy with my parents before the big day. One of my biggest fears is that I'll come down with bronchitis (just getting over a bout) or that my prostatitis will flare up right before surgery.

I guess I'll get my Ross done and hopefully have a chance to tell you what a breeze it was before you have yours!

Hi Dale,
Sorry for your delay.
The very same thing happened to me.
There may be a reason for it that we don't undeerstand but when I did get to my surgery it went like clockwork.
Hopefully so will yours,
Rich

Oh boy ... just what I was scared would happen to me. My surgery almost got delayed twice: first for a urinary tract infection they discovered at the pre-op, then on the day of surgery when they didn't think they had a bed in CIVCU for me and were talking of having me come back the next week. I don't know if I could have dealt with a postponement and having to get up my nerve to go through it all over again. I think you are very brave to be so calm and collected about it.

Dear Dale,
I am sorry about your delay. Your posts have been so encouraging, and actually got me to"sign" up here. I am scheduled for my Ross here In Los Angeles on March 3, with the herat cath on the 2nd. My 5 year old son has had a nasty cold this week. Who has taken care of him? Well, me of course. I have been washing my hands like a mad woman! Hang in there. Your words are inspirational.

Hey y'all, the REAL reason for postponement is so that he will be able to finish out the winter AT HOME in order to use his new snow toy (if it should happen to snow) and to finish his snow story.

When's the latest chapter comin, Dale?

Buggars! I was pretty careful around my grandson when I was waiting for surgery - of course, I didn't have to wait as long as you, and there's a huge difference between your kid and your grandkid, where proximity's involved.

I'm sure you're disappointed and relieved all at once. And probably feeling like a wet noodle after such a bad bout of stomach virus. And it's true that it's better happening now than afterward - I can't even imagine how much blood they'd take if you had that in recovery!

Enjoy your extra waiting time.

Maybe it happened for a reason so don't question it! It's a bummer to have to postpone but you made the right decision. Hope you are feeling better soon!
