I had AVR (St.Jude mechanical) and aneursym repair March 29, 2010 and have had a chronic dry cough since. I tried decreasing metoprolol from 50 mg twice to 25 mg at bedtime. Had pulmonary function tests done May 28, 2010 and am to see Internist tomorrow. Has anyone had any problems with cough post-op? Am supposed to go to work Monday and need to try to get this resolved.

Thanks,

Robert

Robert,

Had surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago and am on 50mg of Metropolol.

Dry cough for me for about the 1st 5 days only, has cleared up since.

Many of my co-workers have had a dry cough over the past year that went on for many months, must be a bug around.

May be simply a coincidence, but your immune system may have been down post surgery and you may have caught something.

Sounds like you have done well to seek professional opinion, as have heard head cardiac surgeon say on a few occasions, that cardiac patients should be very careful of bacterial infection

Let us know how you make out

ACE Inhibitor or ARB (Cozaar)? These Blood Pressure drugs have as a common side effect the type of dry cough you describe. Probably more the ACE Are you on one of them?
