Nan + All,

I am to tired to post much but I wanted to ask you about other meds you might know about to treat PLMD? Have been taking the Neurontin since thurs last week and have been exhausted nearly every day worse than before as well as having increased breathing problems which I think may be from being so tired.......

Also do any of you know is Restrictive Lung Disease progressive??

No results on MPS tests yet, hopefully soon though!! I start weekly counseling tomorrow - wish me luck!!

Erica,
I was prescribed Neurontin a year or two ago by a neurologist for Meralgia Parathesia (a tingling and numbness in the thigh). I had taken it for about 2 weeks when I had an appt with my PCP. He noted that I had edema in my feet and legs, which I do not have a history of having edema. When I called the neurologist, she said that the edema was a side effect of the Neurontin and for me to quit taking it. The edema went away after I was off of the Neurontin for a few days.

She then called in another drug, Imipramine, for me to take instead. I was afraid to take the Imipramine because I read that it causes rhythum disturbances and you need to have EKG's monthly to monitor the heart. I asked my PCP about it and he said that the dose the neurologist had prescribed was relatively low so he thought it would be OK for me to take it. But I was still afraid to take it so I didn't. Then when I started going to an ACHD specialist last fall, I asked him if I could take the Imipramine because my leg was really bothering me. He said "absolutely not"! So my left thigh gets numb and tingles and it starts hurting after a while but I put up with it because I don't need any more heart complications. I'm glad I followed my gut on that one!!

Erica,

Neurontin IS exhausting. I only took 100 mg a day for pain and it made me tired. BUT it did ease up. Your body has to adjust to it. It really helped for my pain. If it's helping you and the only problem is fatigue, you might want to hang in there til your body adjusts to it.

Hi Erica,

There is also requip for PLMD...and your pulmonologist probably knows of others! Talk to her!

Hope you are doing OK.

Best,

Nan

Hi Nan,

I am alright tonight. Took a 3 hour napo this afternoon and still exhausted but not going to bed just yet cause i've got things to do.. :p or i should say get done. I don't know what to think with the Neurontin personally I hate that it makes me so tired all the time. It's almost worse than before I was on it!! Am awaiting hearing back form my Pulm on her thoughts.

My Counseling started today and already I think I am breaking one of my goals
as I am to try and limit my research to an hour a week. Well I havent done any research today but I am still her reading and posting. Thibk that counts??
Seriously though I like the Counselor and she seems like she';ll be really open and really helpful which is cool! Doing that once a week for an hour I can't believe talking about myself to a virtual stranger (i think she will seem less like a stranger in a few weeks time) is game. Who ever thought up such a thing and that it actually can work?? How nuts!! My other goal is to talk ot my schools disabilities coordinator about if I need to miss classes for medical stuff - and seeing what I need to get from my Drs. if anything. She also wants me to think about if I think medication would help me to not worry so much and/or to go with the PLMD med to sleep better. I don't know the answer to that though - i don't know if medication is the right answer but atleast she is open to my opinion on it and it's totally up to what i think is best.

Wow I can't believe i wrote so much I am sorry!! I will keep you up to date though. I also need to talk to my Cardio or EP have been having tons of skipped beats the last few days as well as some breathing issues. It's been crazy here - but not so much in a bad way i don't think.

Niki if you are reading this where have you been?? I miss our chats!!!!!!

Lots of love,

Brother, who is in assisted living, was rxed Neurontin a week ago for peripheral neuropathy (in his feet/lower legs). He says he sleeps better and hasn't voiced any other complaints so far. No swelling that I know of. I will report if he has any.

Hoping your counseling helps.
