OK - I know we all get "pins & needles" when we cut off the circulation to our extremities, but I seem to be getting the all the time lately, and it seems to be taking ages before the feeling subsides. Usually I just shake the tingly bit around until the blood starts pumping through and it's OK in under a minute, but lately (this last week in particular) this doesn't seem to be working so well. I also noticed one of the fingers on my left hand still seemed numb quite some time after the rest of my hand was OK, which has happened a couple of times now.

Even now, just sitting on the sofa with my feet on the floor, they are feeling tingly.

Any thoughts?

Anna,
I have had quite a few episodes with "tingly" arm & fingers with remaining numbness in my index finger after the tingles went away. However, it has always been explained away as a pinched nerve. I have found "pinched nerve" seems to be a popular answer to unexplained pain, tingling, numbness, etc. by doctors who just don't know what it happening.
Personally I think it is due to the same thing that cause my occasional TIAs - bits of matter floating around in the bloodstream but that is just my opinion.
I know that doesn't answer your concerns but just wanted you to know you weren't alone.
Smiles, :)

If it was just one area that was always getting tingly then I could buy the "pinched nerve" theory, but it's both arms, legs, fingers and toes. Even lying flat on my back last night one of my arms started getting tingly, which has never happened before. It's really starting to impact on my sleep because I keep waking up all night needing to change positions - previously it was only if I feel asleep with my arms over my head that I got pins & needles, now it's almost every position I sleep in.

I'm back to Melbourne to see the cardio on Monday/Tuesday so I'll mention it to her and see if she has any ideas.

Hi Tom (glad to see you still dropping in!), I can't get in to see anyone until next week so it looks like I'll be seeing the cardio first anyway. Oh the joys of a small country town..... don't even get me started on trying to get a plumber!!

Me too!

Me too!

Hi, Anna.

I experience the pins and needles quite frequently. I first noticed it while driving long distance. Suddenly my fingers went all tingly. So, I shook them off, lowered one at a time to rest them and proceeded driving until it started up again. Very annoying.

I also experience them while sleeping and they do wake me up. That can be my shoulder, arm, foot. It always appears to be something that I'm either using at the time, or putting weight or stress on.

I also was plagued with leg cramps which would wake me up. I was given quinine for the leg cramps, and it helped immediately. But the tingling remains.

I would be very curious to hear what your doctors do say. I've been walking several miles 4-5 times a week, so I know I'm improving my circulation some, and I think I'm experiencing less, but it is still happening. Also, I've had 3 massages recently from a very experienced practitioner and I think that has helped me also.

I guess I just figured it was old age, or part of the heart situation. I guess I'll mention it to my cardiologist sometime. Let me know what you find out. You may be on to something!

Hi Anna,
Your not diabetic are you? I am and I have what they call Periferal Neuropathy which does the exact same thing that your experiencing right now....Just A Thought for you to possibly have your blood glucose checked as a precaution...I am praying that it's not that, but I feel all avenues should be checked out...Let Me Know, and I hope you feel better. Marguerite -
I've always tended to get a lot of leg cramps (..once they were so bad I literally couldn't walk for a day and a half!..), but I try to keep my magnesium levels up, which seems to help. I know my cirulation is pretty poor, but my BP seems to be higher lately - all the way up to 110/65 - so I would think that would help rather than make things worse!

Pam -
I also get really cold fingers and toes and have been VERY achy lately. I haven't had any other symptoms though, or I'd put it down to having a virus. These things have also been coming and going for a couple of years now and all my blood-work keeps coming back OK. As far as the tingling, there doesn't seem to be any sort of "pattern", but maybe I would benfit from a good chiropractic work out.

Harry -
I've not been diagnosed as diabetic, but if I don't "graze" throughout the day I do tend to get low blood-sugar levels and get very shaky, slurred speech, grey spots, etc. I try to stick with lots of fresh fruit and veges so my sugar levels stay fairly level which helps immensely.

Anyhoo, I'll let y'all know what the cardio has to say about it once I've seen her.

Pam, I think a good massage has to be good for you if you need one or not! :D But, it's definitely worth investigating - I'll have to ask around to see if there is anyone "reputable" in town.
