Been putting in eye drops all week ..but being with sick grandson..let myself go..Now, pus coming from one eye.. Eyeballs red...Put more drops in..Vit. E around and under eyes. I know..coumadin will make them redder... Had pinkeyes often when I was a child.. I took one of my Amox's 500 mg..(Keep them on hand for dental work)..Called daughter and son's house and told them to remove bedclothes I slept on..Also, a towel I left in bathroom at son's when I left... Hubby said..don't get near me:D :D :D Grandma at age 63 with pink eyes..and thought..just kids got it.:p :p :p :p :p anymore home remendies??? Pink Eyed Granbonny:D

It might be pinkeye. But I have also had the same symptoms when I had an allergic reaction to some eyeshadow or mascara I had used. Had to wash it all off my eyelid, and it took a couple of days for everything to calm down. The reaction also involved discharge from my eyes and swelling.

Funny thing is that it doesn't happen with most eye makeup. Never could figure out which ingredient caused it.

Bonnie,

It is very contagious! I can't tell you how many times I have sent students to the nurse with it. Children are removed from school immediately when they have it. I have noticed that one eye usually becomes red before the other. Pus is common.

Our school nurse is not one to overeact and she always sends them to the doctor for a prescription.

I changed my brand of base makeup about 2 weeks ago..Noticed then..that is when my eyes got dry, ect...getting to close..but..I have not used any makeup in 3 days.. You may be correct..Just didn't do my face cleaning, ect. when Grandson was so sick..In fact, tonight was my first shower in 3 days.   I am going to put vasealine around eyes good tonight when I go to bed..for dryness...and eye drops if I wake up during night... When I was little, I would wake up with eyes shut tight and Mama had to put a warm cloth on my eyes to loosen them...wish I had my mama tonight.:( :( Bonnie

So sorry Bonnie. I recall my eyes being glued shut as a yong child
:( Pink eye, etc. My little one has yet to come in contact with it.

They usually prescibe an antibotic onintment.

Try to avoid using anything scented and also refrain from your make up until the infection is cleared. Toss out your mascara and anything else that has come in contact with your eye.

Feel better.

wish I had my mama tonight

Bonnie,

I often wish that, too. I always think that is the best tribute I can give to her. It was the first thought I had when I learned that I was having surgery.

You probably didn't give pink eye to anyone else. I once road with a student on the bus from a field trip. He fell asleep on my shoulder. I thought it was so touching, until I found out the next day that he had pink eye! I've never gotten it and I've probably been exposed over a hundred times.

It's probably not "pinkeye"..

It's probably not "pinkeye"..

unless your grandson had it. I have had it a couple of times as an adult, but it has always come from one of my children that has had it. Conjunctivitis can be caused by mascara or your contacts, and that type is NOT contagious. If it doesn't go away though, I would definitely go get some antibiotic drops.. if it is contagious... you should be fine after 24 hours on the drops.

BTW, the last time my daughter had pinkeye, I took her in, and the PA that saw her said, it's no more contagious (or serious) than the common cold, and that most teachers/schools tend to OVER-react.

Bonnie:

Do as Mother Ann says. Also, you might want to see if your PCP will prescribe something alone the lines of tobramycin ophthalmic ointment or a triple antibotic ophthalmic ointment. That's what we use on cat and kittens. Tobramycin ($$ brand name Tobrex) is a human Rx, comes in ointment and drops. I keep a small bottle with my makeup when I travel.

As ditto on taking care not to spread the bacteria to others.
