Ok valvers; the Valvereplacement.com relay team is eyeing another marathon. The Philadelphia marathon is Nov 19th. As of right now we need one new runner for a team. Any takers? You would have to be able to get to Philadelphia the day before the marathon to meet up and get packet pick up with us, oh yeah, and run between 4-6.5 miles depending on how they slice up the relay. We may need a second runner as well depending on circumstances. I will try to register a team in the next day and hopefully get a slot. Please let us know!! It is such a blast to run with the merry hearts of VR.com. You do not have to be wicked fast. A sense of humor is a must!
Hopefully we can get this pulled together!

OK open heart slackers! i posted the advert for runners ONE FULL DAY AGO!!!! Anyway, they still have not opened registration for the relay, but unlike the Vermont Marathon, this one is only 4 runners. In all fairness I should let you guys know it is one 10 mile leg, one 4 mile leg, one 6.5 mile leg and one 6 mile leg. Needless to say this may change the desire to run for some. I meam OHS is one thing but 6 miles?? Whew! I feel the need for pasta already......

Alas, the timing is not good for me. Come on the rest of you, pick me up! :)

The same is true for me. I have done this race before (full marathon in 2001). It's flat!! Surely, we have another aspiring relay member?

I will be posting something later this year about a marathon relay in October 2007 (Akron Ohio) to give people something to think about for next year. Two VR.COM marathon relay teams in 2006 would be a great accomplishment!

I am tentative and would enjoy the challenge of the 10miles, however as a member of the Vermont team I would love to see some new people run. Laura and Hugh are in and they are fantastic people. We had a great time getting to know each other and talking over our surgeries a little too. I would encurage you (who ever you may be) to give it a go.

Where are all our runners? I thought there would be a waiting list for this event.
Laura if you can't find enough people I will run as far as I can and crawl the remainder. Seriously, I am not sure I will be ready to cover the distance and my AVR "vacation" left me with no more vacation time. Book me for 2007.

Phillip: You are penciled in for the Vermont Marathon team this spring and whatever Ohio thing mswik is planning for us unsuspecting souls!

Hey Heavyshot(I like that name!) While I think any mileage is great, it looks like the upper 6 mileage is needed as someone has spoken for the 4. Alternatively, it looks like we may have to be flexible with putting together a relay team if we can't get it filled. The race is close to Thanksgiving and some people are hesitant about committing themselves so far out. The mileage also may be a little duanting for some, especially those of us coming up close to surgery or just recovering in training from it. Very understandable! What mitralman and I briefly discussed was the possibility of gathering a bunch of valvers to do the Rothman 8K (roughly 5 miles) that runs at the same time as the Philly marathon/relay/1/2 marathon. Go the Philadelphia marathon 2006 website to see details. From what I understand, last year people were able to sign up fairly closse to the event and still get in,so that helps with possible holiday committments.
Feedback is always appreciated! I hope we keep evlolving this and we get a good turnout for whatever we decide to do. If not: THERE IS ALWAYS ANOTHER RACE TO RUN!

thats cool laura. I really need more time to train. Did you ever hear of the "Run for the Diamonds" marathon in Berwick Pa. It's the seventh oldest marathon in the country. I live in Berwick and would like to run it someday. It's a 9 miler so I have a ways to go. You can check it out at runfordiamonds.com.

Hey heavyshot, if we do end up doing the 8K I hope you would consider continuing to train for it. That way we could all meet up in Philly!

Hi Laura,

I mentioned this to my wife and asked if she would be willing to let me participate...

When she finished laughing....

When she was done laughing.....

When she was finally done laughing....

Oh well, maybe the next one.
