I have experienced a persistent cough for about 5 weeks (since I was diagnosed with aortic insufficiency and began Toprol). It's just one short little cough every few minutes. Sometimes it feels like a small amount of fluid is squeezing into my upper chest but the doctors can hear no congestion They put me on Protonix saying that it was probably gastro-esophageal reflux, but I have never had that before and the Protonix is having no effect.
Could it be the Toprol or related to the leaky valve?

What all tests have they done on you? Sounds to me like you've got a bit of CHF beginning. There is nothing definative in the Toporol prescribing sheet to suggest it could be a cause, but I'm wondering if you don't have an aneurysm brewing.

CHF sounds right. Is it common with severe regurgitation? I had an echo and nuclear stress test right before this started would that have picked up an anuerism? I also had a heart cath a few days ago.

Those tests should pick it up, but they completely missed mine! The only way they saw mine was on a CATSCAN. Don't know why either.

It may be your meds, but the prescription sheet is very sketchy on warnings. i just don't like the way you say that it feels like liquid, cause if it feels like it, it probably is. ;)

As Ross said the tests you have had done should have picked up an aneurysm. The cough and fluid to me sound like CHF beginning. The other thing I thought of was if you have recently started an ACE inhibitor this may have started the cough. It affects some people in this way.

When Chloe's regurgitation on her mitral valve started to become severe, she developed that cough you are describing. I'd agree with the others, sounds like CHF.
