Hi everyone, I haven't posted for ages but do pop in to see how everyone is doing.
Today I just wanted to pass on some info I have gained in the last few weeks.
To cut a very long story short I am still having pericarditis three years after my valve replacement but having spent seven wonderful weeks with my sister in Bermuda where she lives I got to see a wonderful cardiologist there.
He was told not to put someone anyone steroids when they had pericarditis because every time you try to reduce them the condition flares up again and this has been my experience!
He has suggested taking colchicine which is an old drug for gout and at the same time very slowly reduce the steroids. this will probably take eigtheen months to achieve but if it works it will certainly be worth it.
Although relapsing pericarditis is a rare complication it can occur post surgery and I just hope this info might help someone in the future. Sorry this is so long. Take care. Adrienne
