Kudos for this one too!

I'll have to remember some of them, but I'm sure I can add a few to that list too. :)

Thanks for adding it. I hope some people read it and realize what I've tried to say to some of them.

Thank you, thank you, Al for this one. The first statement was the most pertinent for me. My brother is taking coumadin - hes so set in his ways (life-long bachelor) that he refuses to eat any green things, yet he was raised on them and loves them. He is in assisted living and cooks/staff have orders to not give him a salad or anything else that's leafy or very green. I keep telling him he can eat it, but he won't. At his age and state of health it is a matter of eating what he wants, anyway. Thank you again.

I sent him the page.......

It's great

It's great

Thanks.

I think the most dangerous advice from docs and nurses is "you don't need to know anything about warfarin - we'll take care of you."

yeah.

I like that one, Georgia.

"I'm from the government and I'm here to help you."

Thanks Al. I hear the one about being cold all the time. If I mention that it is cold in my office, some know it all I work with will inevitably make the comment that it is because I am on a "blood thinner." Its irritating to say the least.

Al,

I laughed when I read your "government/help" post, because that was exactly my repsonse before I scrolled down.

Let's be sure that we don't get nationalised health care........oooops, this is not a political forum.

An elderly man getting circumsized? Ouch!

Getting off track a little..but when my wonderful MALE dog was at the U of Ga. Vet Hospital at age 12..and their knowing we only had about 6 months left with him..They circumsized HIM telling us it would help for him to Not get cancer..When the bill came ( Had to Mortage my home:p }..I was looking at it..Guess what..They charged me for a FEMALE neutering.   Lots more $$$$$..Moral of the story..not only check your people hospital bills..but your Vet's too.  :mad:Bonnie

I know it's not a blood thinner and I try to explain that to people, but..... My brother, who takes Coumadin also, even said that he could tell if his INR was too low because he felt sluggish. I guess that would mean that people who don't take Coumadin are always sluggish!

However, I did hear that your toes and fingers may be cold because Coumadin affects your circulation - which is why one of the potential complications is "Black Toes". Is this another rumor?

Warfarin has no effect on normal circulation. It only slows the ability to form a clot.

Purple toes syndrome is extremely rare. It usually occurs after the first one or two doses. I have only seen 1 case where the docotors were positive of the diagnosis and 1 where it was in doubt.

I was told that the for sure case was going to need all of his toes amputated and that I would just be caring for him until then. But he improved and only the tip of his middle toe died and it fell off on its own - no surgery. He was very glad. So was I, since his wife was a medical malpractice attorney.
