what a hassle!!
Deb, this is the note I got from Medco Pharmacy (mail order):
"Important information about your medication.
Brand name: Coreg® All Strengths
Generic name: carvedilol
Manufacturer: GlaxoSmithKline
All strengths of Coreg, a product of GlaxoSmithKline, are temporarily unavailable from the manufacturer. The shortage of this medication is on a national basis, and the manufacturer cannot estimate when Coreg will again be available.
As a result, in the interim, you will not be able to purchase this medication through your mail-order pharmacy service, Medco By Mail. Although this shortage is on a national basis, you may still want to check with a local retail pharmacy to see whether it has Coreg in stock. If you identify a retail pharmacy with Coreg available, but your plan has coverage limitations or restrictions on prescriptions filled at retail, please contact Member Services at the toll-free number shown on the label of your medication.
Please also consult your doctor since you may need to obtain a new prescription for an alternative medication for your condition. You can mail your new prescription along with a completed mail-order form and your payment option to Medco. Or, you can ask your doctor to call 1 888 327-9791 for instructions on how to fax the prescription.
If you have any questions, please contact Member Services at the toll-free number shown on the label of your medication."
It should be so easy!! I found some available at my Tops Pharmacy (grocery store). When I called Medco they told me to have retail pharm. call them and after being put on hold (after getting past the recorded options) the pharmacist was told it is too early for a refill. Not so, it is time for a refill but the pharmacist called me back and said she could fill it for me Feb 13th. Fortunately I have enough to hold me til then but she only has 70 that she is holding for me and I usually get 180 at a time as I take 6.25 daily.
I used to take Atenolol but after my MVrepair at the Cleveland Clinic they put me on the Coreg, supposedly helps keep you out of CHF.
Hope you can find some for your Mom the next time around.
God bless, Barb
