I am now thinking of trying acupuncture for my nightly pain. Has anyone had any success with this treatment?

Also exactly how does this work? Is it simply you feel a whole lot better once all the needles are taken out of you and that's why people feel better after they have it?

A good friend of mine swears by it for his chronic back pain.
He says it does not hurt and after a few treatments, there are
notable differences.

It can't hurt more than the pain you've been suffering with, right?

Hey Dave,

Just wanted to add my two cents, since I work for a Physical Therapy/ Chiropractor/ Accupucnturist (So?). I see many patients recieve accupunture and most of them swear by it. Some get all 3 treatments and the accupunture is a bonus and some patients only get accupuncture. I work closely with these patients and the doctor who performs it. The Dr has asked me if I want treatment but I don't really have much faith in it. I really believe it will help you if you truly believe in it. Sometimes I believe it's somewhat mind over matter. If you think it will work, it probably will. I don't know however any patients on Coumadin and that is another reason I won't try it. I never see patients bleed, Because the needles are so small and do not hurt at all. But these patients are not on Coumadin so I don't know how it would affect people like us. I would say ask your cardiologist and if you do decide to do it, Please make sure it is by a trained professional. Hope you find a cure for your pain. Wishing you all the best. Take care!

Hey, Young 'un - thought maybe you went off with Evelyn - wondered where you have been. I am sure your job is demanding and something has to give, right? But sure nice to see you. Hope your Christmas was merry and your New Year an excellent one. God bless

Hey dave, have you ever sat in one of those recliners that message you...no really deep tissue message you? My husband and I went on a date on my birthday, ended up at the mall where they have these chairs that will message you for $1 for a pretty long good message, and we were both like "OOOOOHHHHH YYYEEEAAAHHHHH!!!!!" It was nice. Maybe you should try a messeuse? Take it easy, and I hope that SOMETHING helps you with your pain...poor thing, you have been fighting pain for a VERY long time!

The pain is more of an annoyance than anything...just enough to wake me up and keep me up at night. It is not severe, but just a pain in the ***. to have.

It really is not musclular either, so I don't think a massage would help. I have a dissection down through the decending aorta and I believe that the pressure when I lay down aggravates it and the pain builds to a point where it wakes me up.

I went to a pain specialist and he prescribed me these lollipop narcotics...an opium type suckable stick called "ACTIQ". It does not help because it takes so long to get into my system...then it just wires me all night.

Don't feel bad for me I really am happy I don't have it worse....(like dead). There are alot of others in worse shape than me out there. The people with pain that is a true pain and hurts all the time are the people I really feel for. Mine is only at night.

David, I only tried accupucnture once, but...

..since I didn't notice any difference in my lower back pain / shouler pain and pain in both knees I decided that it wasn't worth it for me.

I paid $65 and gave him a $10 dollar tip hoping that it would work like the Flotation Tank had worked on me before (I couldn't find any Flotation Tank centers in El Paso so I opted for accupucnture.

Th Flotation Tank worked on my right knee pain 100% within 7 days. When I first stepped out of the tank I noticed about a 33% in pain reduction. Gradually the pain diminished completely within 7 days. This after Harbor UCLA Medical Center doctor told me that he couldn't do anything else for me, (had an athroscopy done on right knee in 1985, --broken cartilagefrom job injury) that I would have to learn to live with the pain.

At times I couldn't even sleep because of the pain. I couldn't work much and the pain was killing me. I figured that I was just an obstacle for my family and decided to commit suicide.

I gradually searched for the place and the means and on D Day, just a fraction of a second before I proceeded to 'the site' I was 'instructed' (please don't ask by whom as my idea might not fit your beliefs) to go to the library. I was about four blocks from the library at that point pondering what to do. When I got to the library parking lot I asked myself 'what am I doing here?'

Then all of a sudden I stepped out of the car headed for the library, walked inside and still pondering as to what I was doing inside the library since I hadn' t planned on it and besides, where to and what now?

After trying to figure out why I had driven to the library and why I had stepped into the library 'without a reason' (I was looking in all directions inside the library figuring what to do next as I couldn't understand why I was there in the first place, I was confused).

Then all of a sudden I though, well since I'm here anyways why not look for a book on pain relief?

But then that's the subject on page two.

When later I found-out that you can get aids, hepatites etc., etc. from someone sticking 'dirty' needles into your body (in the name of accupucnture) I though NEVER again!

Chiropractors? NEVER again, one ALMOST killed me with his treatment in Denver. In desperation I went to such though I've NEVER beleved in their type of treatments.

I was so angry at the '100 times' worse pain AFTER I was 'treated' then the pain I had started with that if I had had a gun I would have blown his brains out.

Later I found out that UCLA was 'experimenting' with flotation tanks and I have always wondered why I wasn't 'shoved' into one as one of the tanks' benefits is pain-relief.

God Bless all

Cruiser,

I can understand your frustrations living with 'early onset' arthritis' myself.

You mentioned Denver.. Does not surprise me as we have heard many of 'horror' stories from friends that live out there. Chiropractic medicine seems to be a major racket amongst some of the health enthusiasts.

Anyway, I would highly discourage anyone with a valve replacement to use this type of practice. Think of the damage infection alone could have! I was never a believer in Chiropractic care. My care comes from a good old orthopedic/sports med doc.

Gina you're right about....

Gina you're right about....

...'poking' individuals with valve replacement. No more 'vitamin B-12 injections for me when in Mexico either.

My first job in a gasoline service station thought me about 'the switching product practice.' The owner instructed me to 'fill premium brand-name discarded oil cans' with 'bulk' oil (oil he bought in 55 gallon barrels, --the cheapest, 10 cents a quart at ththat time) and to use these 'altered' cans when individuals asked for 'premium' oil.

After a few days I quit this job (I was about 17). I found out then that I'd never be 'this type of person' throughout the remainder of my life (Oh, and the automatic transmission scenario is a much better example, but that's on page two).

How do I know if 'the poker' cleaned the needle/syringe by one of 'his special experimental methods' (to save money?) and made me a recipient of his experiments?

Dave I messed up....

Dave I messed up....

...instead of pressing post reply I hit post new thread!

Here it is (again?)

Check-out this website...
...I'm going to make an appointment in a couple of weeks.

I called and they're accepting appointments presently.

Back Pain

Just so long as you don't do VAX-D for back pain. That is a total scam. A guy here in Indy was just paralyzed by the "physician" that does VAX-D. Nice.

HOOKED!!!

HOOKED!!!

Just a follow up from an old thread...and a word of warning.

I was prescribed 'Aqtiq' and Duragesic patches (both an opioid) It took a very short time for me to become dependant on this crap....I couldn't stand the tired feeling all the time, I would close my door at work and take cat naps and sometimes sneak home to crash. So I quit taking them and went into withdrawal! It was the worst feeling. I couldn't sleep and felt like climbing the walls.

When first prescibed these I expressed my concern to the 'pain specialist' and they downplayed any worries I had about getting 'hooked' Boy I can't wait until my next appointment with them. I am finally over the withdrawal sysmptoms and now not taking anything for my pain....but at least I am lucid at work now!

Duragesic is some nasty heavy duty pain killer. Fentanyl. I used those on my mom during her last few months on this earth. I couldn't believe that she was even conscience with 5! 100 mcg patches on.

Oh yeah, I can see how you'd get addicted real easy.
