Right off the bat I can think of Alan de Lac - you can look him up in the members list and see if he has an email address - or you can email him via Valve Replacement if he accepts. Click on Members List (above) and you will find him in the A's and you will see what his info is. He was in a thread last week - mayhap he will see this one.

Welcome..

Welcome..

Dougie,

Welcome Dougie. You've come to the right place to ask questions. You couldn't have met a friendlier group of people so ask away. There never is a wrong question. We've all been where you are today and the waiting can get a bit anxious but we will hold your hand until the day of surgery. But knowledge is power, so become educated regarding valve surgery.
Dougie, I am not Canadian but years ago I used to live in your neck of the woods. (Kitchener-Waterloo). In 1977 I moved my family to the SW part of the US. (AZ)
I've been where you are today and had my first AVR surgery in 8-7-2000 and had to do it again 11 days later. (Read my story as to why a second surgery)
I know there are other Canadians on the forum. I think one of them is named "Lance". Hopefully, he'll come along and the two of you can connect.

Wishing you the best.

Hello from this Canadian

Hello from this Canadian

Good morning Dougie,

You live in a beautiful part of the province--Niagara River Parkway, the Falls, Butterfly Conservatory, NOTL, etc., etc.

My mitral valve was replaced a few years ago, I live between Orangeville and Fergus and my surgery was done in Hamilton.

You have found the best site with the best people anywhere. What a blessing you found us before your surgery. There are so many helpful, knowledgeable members you will probably learn more here than from your practitioners. You will at least know what questions to ask and what info you need to keep yourself fully informed.

Where will your surgery be performed and do you have a date yet?

Sandra/Lance

Hi Dougie: This is my first Reply. I just registered Today. I have know about this Forum before I had my surgery but did not register or post. After Reading your post I signed on. I know what you are going through and found this Forum very helpful just reading about others. It is good to know people on this board have gone through the same thing and are OK . My Aortic valve was replaced 20 July 2005 in London Ontario I would be glad to discuss anything with you . I am 54 years old . married 29 years, three daughters and a Grandson . I think in a lot of ways the surgery is harder on your love ones than yourself . Keep a positive attitude .

Hello Dougie,
I'm from Toronto. Still in the waiting room (most likely looking at a Ross Procedure when the time comes). Are you seeing a cardiologist in the Niagara region?

Hi Ashley, Old Clicker, Racer66, Lance, & Christina
I am seeing a cardiologist in Niagara (Dr. Tannous) and my surgeon will be Dr. Teoh at Hamilton General when I get a surgery date. I had aCT scan on Jan11/06 but have not got the results yet. I also had an angiogram on Nov. 16/05 which showed Aortic Stenosis and a couple of blocked arteries.
I had a quadruple bypass in 1994 and Colon cancer in 2000 followed by 6 months of chemo. I have been Cancer free for over 5 years and now I have this surgery to look forward to.
By the way Christina lived in Kitchener Waterloo Ontario for a while and if you haven't read her story you should.
I will keep you all posted when I receive aSurgery Date.
Dougie
