I had my aortic value replaced almost three years ago. Mechanical valve. On Warfarin, have to keep INR between 3.5-4.0 because of TIAs if lower. Now I have to have my upper teeth cut out by an oral surgeon because them are all breaking down, crowns falling out, holes left for bacteria to enter. Any suggestions, advice...anything? I am concerned about the warfarin usage causing excessive bleeding during and after surgery, concerned about bacteria eventually causing endocarditis, concerned about lowering the warfarin and stroking out. Concerned about costs, what insurance will pay and won't. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

Because of your TIA history and INR range, I don't think you want to go off warfarin during these procedures. If serious bleeding is anticipated, your PCP or Cardio should provide a "bridging" IF you must reduce your INR. Under these circumstances (medical need) your health insurance probably will cover most of the cost. Call your insurer BEFORE going thru the procedure.
