Hi all,
I'm talking l-o-n-g-term aches here! I believe it is common to have shoulder/chest problems years after any kind of open heart surgery, which stands to reason seeing that your chest is cut and pulled then 'aligned' and rewired. I have shoulder pain and chest/sternum pain over 20 years later. Probably arthritis the doctor says. Anyone else have these aches, or is it my old age? (at 43!!!)

I was just talking to Joe about this yesterday. He's had several thoracic surgeries, and he says that he does have aches and pains in his chest and back, especially when exercising. He thinks it's scar tissue, probably adhesions too, and some arthritis as well. All of these surgeries were done a while back.

I di have some aches in the shoulders due to the computer work I do. I tend to lean to do the work and forget to stretch. I am only 38 years old and no arthritis yet. Never heard of that with mr. arthir, but never know what might visit me later in life. Arthritis does run in my mother's family. Thanks for the info and hope you remember to stretch the shoulder's slowly to get the stiffness out. Take care.

oh oh, that worried me because I ALWAYS have aches in my shoulders from playing the guitar, (and I'm only 24 years old!!!)

Liamty - that's a long time and discourages me! I had surgery (not heart) in May of this year and they 'did something' to my hip while I was under anesthesia and I mentioned it once I got back to the room many hours later (to my daughter). It is still not ok, tho better, and it's six months now. I have been to doctors and doctors, finally ending up with a chiropractor who told me to go back to orthopedic dr. It has been suggested that a nerve was impinged somewhere in there but I guess I will never know. I am just stuck with a disability that somebody else caused. You may be there, too. No tellin what they do to us when we are not conscious. They don't mean to, but there it is. And we suffer forever. Maybe it is just part of the risk we take when we put our body in the hands of others. Most of us are lucky and nothing lasting occurs - but then there are some..........

Hi Everyone!
I am 14 months post op and still get aches, pains, twinges etc.....
I had asked my cardio about this before and he said that I will probably experience this on and off for the rest of my life. Just part of side effects of surgery. I have also heard that you can develop arthritis after having this type of surgery.

Take Care!
Gail
