Well it has been a year ago today that I had my aortic valve replaced at The Cleveland Clinic. I can't believe a year has gone by so quickly. I am doing terrific and feel better than I have in years. The only lingering side effect is the flashes of light that I still have several times a day. Other than that, I am 100% once again!

In the last year I have witnessed the birth of my second Grandaughter, watched my Grandson graduate from high school and start college, purchased a second home in North Carolina, watched my youngest son get married and changed my outlook on what is important. Major surgery has a way of defining the important things in life...

I want to thank all of you again for your encouragement prior to and after my AVR surgery. Not sure I could have gotten through it without you!

Congrats on your First Anniversary. It does feel like a like mile stone doesn't it?
But WOW, what an amazing year you have had.

Many Congrats and may you have many, many more.

Cheers!

CONGRATULATIONS!!:)
So glad to hear of a tissue-valve comrade doing well.
My best-Dina

Question about those "flashes of light": I'm 12 days post op and although I've suffered from migraines since 1974, I have never had such an onslaught of them since my AVR and Maze procedure. A few a day in some cases. Throughout each day, I get these little almost like shooting star flashes. I've had those before my migraine aura begins but that doesn't happen each time. Are your "flashes" similar to those?

I feel your pain! I've also suffered migraines from 74 and right after my surgery I was continually getting *migraine auras*....although no pain but that may have been due to the pain meds. As the weeks have progressed (five weeks out from an AVR) I've been taken off more meds and most of my vision has returned to normal. The biggest offender was "amiodarone" which (according to my Cardiologist) crosses the blood brain barrier and can mess with vision.

Your still very early and you have ton of healing to do...give it time.

Happy Anniversary. Life has truly been good to you after surgery- keep it up and enjoy!

Happy 1st Anniversary and congratulations on all your milestones in the past year.

HAPPY FIRST ANNIVERSARY!!! I hope you have many, many more wonderful years! Dawn-Marie
