Salute back to you Ross. Thanks for the post. Having served under that flag most of my life, first as a Cub and Boy Scout pledging allegiance to the flag, then as a member of the United States Air Force and on into retirement, then employment as a Civilian Marine, I hold a special place in my refurbished heart for that great banner.

I have been a member of The American Legion, joining that organization long before retirement from the Air Force. All our Post World War I veterans have long departed this earth for their next well deserved assignment and we are quickly losing our World War II veterans to the same reward. I pains me dearly when I see our past, current and future veterans virtually ignored by many folks currently living under this great flag.

I ask that the next time you see one of our fine men or women in uniform out and about to take the time to stop and thank them for their service to our country. Unlike my generation during the years of the draft, these guys and gals that serve today VOLUNTEERED to follow in that proud tradition. That speaks volumes for the dedicated and giving young people that we have proudly raised.

May God Bless and Keep Them All,

Danny :)

I know I liked it. Many of the previous generation are now disappearing. Just the rivalry between the two is excellent.

Our son's best friend is in the last month of his 2nd tour in Iraq. He will be done with active service in August and will enter the inactive reserves for 4 years. This is a young man who's birth country is not the US. He received his citizenship during his first tour in Iraq. We exchange email a lot and IM when we can, and now that his time in the service is coming to an end he is faced with deciding what to do next. He wrote to me twice "I want to do something to make an impact on this world, no matter how small." It brought tears to my eyes. I wrote him back that he's made his impact and it was no small one.

Danny - I'm so glad that you point out the fact that we have an all-volunteer military. I know many young men and women who have volunteered. Unlike prior to the Iraq war, no one can say that they volunteered not knowing what they were facing. They all knew....and they volunteered anyway. I think it speaks a lot of this younger generation.
