Hi All, Apologies for not getting in touch earlier to let you know how my Surgery went. I don?t know where the time has gone since I came home ! .
Thanks for the messages posted wishing me luck for the Op. In event my Surgery actually took place a day later it was originally planned. I ended up going down late afternoon on 5th June. However the Surgeon was able to give me the Valve I had wanted, namely the Bovine Tissue valve, and I was back and awake in the Intensive care suite by 20:00.
I was pleasantly surprised at how good I felt after the Surgery, and the Doctors must have been happy too because they let me go home on the Monday Morning ( 9th ) . Apart from the obvious discomfort caused by Sneezing or Coughing etc , I felt pretty good, and over the last few weeks I have made sure I get out and do a couple of walks a day. I have now built up to two walks of 45 minutes each a day. Because I am feeling so good I find the difficult thing Is remembering not to put too much strain on my chest by lifting to much, but when I do my chest soon reminds me !! .
As for the next few weeks it just more of the same, keeping up with the walking and increasing the amount of tasks I can do around the house. Also because our planned Summer Holiday to France had to be cancelled this year due to my Op, we are now planning to take a bigger Holiday next year to Califonia, so that should keep me busy, planning routes and places to see.
I am due to go back to see my Surgeon on 29th July to see how I am progressing. Hopefully at that time he will clear me to start Driving again.I also hope to be able to get on to a 6 week rehab course at the hospital around that time. This is something I am very keen on doing, because in the future I hope to get back to the sport I was doing previously and I am hoping this course will be able to show me how hard i can work my heart safely. Otherwise I think in the back of my mind I will be unsure if I am pushing it a bit too much.
Now all I need is for the Sun to come back out so I can take my book and go and sit in the garden. Otherwise it's back to the Jigsaw.
Cheers for now
Alan
