Hi all,
This may be old news to some of you but thought I'd post anyway in case it helps someone?
The makers of the ON-X valve have put a new bit on their site with all sorts of information - comparisons etc (not all of which makes sense to me but I'm sure it will to some of you!), this is the link to one part of it...

Thanks, Emma...........

Thanks, Emma...........

for posting this. Like you, I was a bit lost in spots. It looks to me like the carbomedics and on-x are about the same in the mitral position...............but it's so confusing. Sure wish my mind was a tad bit more scientific in nature.............Anyway, thanks for keeping us up to date. Hugs. Janet

Well that sounds impressive.

However, a surgeon once told me that the On-X valve of a specific size is larger than other valves with the same nominal size.

That means that in some cases it is not possible, say to fit a 21 mm On-X in an annulus were 21 mm from other manufactures will fit. So a 19 mm would have to be used instead of 21.
So to compare the same nominal size of valves does not give the real result obtained in a real surgery in a real patient.
However, this was an opinion one sugeon gave to me.
I cannot prove whether this opinion is right or not.

Greetings

Dear Emma,

I fully convinced that your daughter got an excellent valve.
My comment was only related to the aortic valve.
25 mm seems to be a very good large valve.
I recently got my aortic valve replaced and obtained only a 23 mm Carpentier
Edwards Perimount, even after having had the annulus enlarged by a special technique.
The gradient is only 7 mm Hg, so not worse than that of a 25 mm On-X.

All the best

Dirk
