Hello all. I am 23 and new here. I am supposed to have my 3rd OHS next week. I was born with Transposition of the Great Vessels. I am supposed to have my pulmonary valve replaced and would like to know what anyone here knows about the on-x valve (that is the one my doctor says would be the best). Especially if you have one in the pulmonary position. Thanks

Welcome and I hope we can help you. Here is a thread posted where another member had a pulmonary valve replaced- maybe you can glean some information here: http://valvereplacement.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18557&highlight=replace+pulmonary+valve
I have not found one where the on-x was used for the pulmonary valve, but you might put in a search for on-x pulmonary and come up with some posts other than your own. Please let us know your surgery date so that we can post it on the calendar and follow your progress. Best wishes to you.

Thanks! I also read somewhere that it the risks of a mechanical valve are higher in the pulmonary position. Does anyone have any info on this they could share? I'd appreciate it.

Hi Brett my son Justin is 19 and also has TGA, he has a conduit with a bovine valve in it. Do you have a conduit from your right ventricle -pulm artery? I don't have any papers on it, but from what i've learned over the years most people I know have tissue valves in the pulm position since I BELIEVE the concern about mech valves, is clots, since the pressure is pretty low in the pulm valve. I don't know if you have found it but there is a great forum for adults with CHD at http://www.achaheart.org/ quite a few members have had their pulm valves replaced because of TGA or TOF (tetrology of Fallot).
Also when you are looking for information on pulmonary valves, In case you didnt know, they don't make specific pulm valves, instead they use aortic valves.
Good luck If you have any questions, just ask. Lyn
