OMG! Forgot to add -- I DON'T have Marfan's!

My results came back the day of surgery, and it's highly likely that I do NOT have Marfan's, which made my surgeon happy. And my cardiologist was SO sure that I had it! So I guess I had better update my sig.

Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease is being referred to as a syndrome in its own right in the medical literature now.

There is still confusion as many physicians are not aware of the complexities of bicuspid aortic valve disease. The characteristics are more subtle than some other syndromes.

The NIH is including BAVS in its registry of all conditions associated with the thoracic aorta, including Marfan and Ehlers-Danlos.

Just be sure to have life-long follow up and keep informed as advancements are made in understanding about those born with BAVs. It is not Marfan, but it is complex also.

You must be relieved to learn that you don't have Marfans, that's great news.
