Omacor is a pure fish oil with no contaminents such as mercury, and is in pill form.
Is there any known bad interaction between Omacor and Coumadin?
Thanks alot

I thought that fish oil could affect your INR levels, that it had a similar effect to coumadin. I was told that as long as I took the fish oil on a consistent basis, it wouldn't be a problem taking both.

Fish oil affects the platelets. Things that affect the platelets do not affect the INR. Things that affect the platelets can increase the risk of bleeding but they do not give a warning such as increased INR.

Based on your last post about fish oil and platelets, wouldn't it be prudent for someone on anticoagulation therapy to err on the side of caution and not use fish oil (or flax seed oil)? Also, what about people who take Coumadin and Plavix and aspirin. Again, it seems to me that taking fish oil could be very problematic...especially given that testing platelets is not easily done.

Appreciate your assistance in this and so many other matters. I sure would like to take fish oil too.

I don't know the answer. It would probably depend upon how high the person's triglycerides are. If they were around 1,000 which is very high risk for pancreatitis it would probably be worthwhile. If they were 300 it might not be worth the risk.

Plavix and aspirin have been studied and the risk is statistically significant but it should not rule out ever using these with warfarin.
