Hi all! I'm currently in a hotel in Wichita, KS on my way to Oklahoma to visit some friends and I'm just curious if there's anyone on the board from around the area and if there are any "must see" things around that we shouldn't miss? We plan on stopping in Oklahoma City to see the Memorial from the bombing, and I know our friends said something about tar pits. Anything else? I just love traveling and don't wanna miss anything. :D

Thanks for any help!

By the way, unfortunately the main reason we're going is because my husband's best friend just got some very unfortunate news about his heart condition. Horribly he was told that the doctor guessed he wouldn't live another 10 years. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers for us, he's only in his 30's with children and one on the way. Plus he's a hero...him and his wife are in the military (well he's retired now obviously) and served in Iraq. Thank you.

Well, since you asked..

Well, since you asked..

Carista...you must see http://www.okcmoa.com/./exhibits_chihulycollection.htm The exhibit is absolutely fabulous and what a treat for you in OKC. I wondered how such a small, relatively new museum could afford such an undertaking and when I saw the exhibit I learned that Chihulys' wife is from OKC...so there you have it!

I also saw his exhibition at Kew Gardens near London this past summer. The OKC permanent exhibition is just as good!

And you're in for a double treat.. http://www.okcmoa.com/./exhibits_current.htm Course, I love anything to do with Mexico!

Carista:

Bricktown, in the downtown area, is supposed to be good for tourists. I go to OKC once a year, Thanksgiving weekend, for a cat show, have yet to make it to Bricktown. I'm chained to an exhibition hall during the day, so all I know about is restaurants.

Good places to eat:
Breakfast or lunch -- Jimmy's Egg, there's one on May, just north of the fairgrounds, probably other locations. Wonderful omelettes, anything you want in one, and some great homemade bread. Also has regular breakfasts, eggs, I'm sure pancakes. Burgers & other things at lunch. Not open for dinner. Very reasonable.
Dinner -- Applewoods, can't remember where it has moved to but I ate there a year ago. Look in phone book. Has scrumptious apple fritters. Very good fried shrimp, grilled pork chops, lobster bisque, other things.
Dinner -- Classen Grill, on Classen in the NW part of the city, I think. Locally owned, nightly specials. Is in the phone book. I haven't been there in a while, though.
There's also a great steak place in the stockyards, right on the main drag coming off the interstate.
