Hi Gang,
Well, it seems as if I am having more trouble...eeek!!!! I started having chest pains last night, took nitro and felt better. I got up today and did some house cleaning (I am single, so someones got to do it....LOL) and then went to my pain management Dr.s appointment and had some more chest pains, and when they took my pulse it was up to 153...Not Good..The doc also mentioned about some pac's, as I told him when I take my pulse sometimes I feel 1 strong pulse, 1 weak pulse...Could someone explain to me about pacs and whether or not having one pulse reading of 153 is bad? My cardio's nurse told me over the phone that my pulse tends to run high....any advice will greatly be appreciated....Thanks again, Harrybaby  :D  :D

Is that ALL the cardiologist's nurse had to say, "your pulse tends to run high" ??

Unless you were doing aerobic type exercise and then had that heart rate, I would make an appointment with the cardiologist asap. This did happen without you doing lots and lots of strenuous stuff, right?

Your high heart rate coupled with the chest pain should be thoroughly checked out.

Be proactive, and make them get to the bottom of this and find a way to help you.

Any one of the three things you listed (PACs, 153 resting pulse, and CHEST PAIN) would drive me to get checked out right away.

IMHO, these are signs your heart is working hard.

(standard disclaimer, I'm not a doctor, etc....)

Let us know how it goes.

Hmmmmm...... what are we going to do with you Harry? Please make sure you get yourself properly checked out - especially if you're still having these strange symptoms.

I'll be sending positive thoughts and best wishes your way.

A : )

High pulse reate and chest pain? I think that deserves a little more than "your pulse tends to run high" That is a lot higher than "a little high".

Hope you are feeling better....and perhaps have gotten yourself to the ER? Or to the cardio?

Hi Abba, Nancy, Hensy, Johnny, Nan and all the gang..

Hi Abba, Nancy, Hensy, Johnny, Nan and all the gang..

Hi Guys,
I did go get checked out at the emergency room and ended up being put into the hospital for tests and let me tell you, it was a very bad 2days.. The attending Doctor for some reason couldn't get my story straight, as I had to tell him 3 times, and he never mentioned to me about the 153 beats per minute heart rate even though I kept pushing for an answer. I couldn't believe how bad this doctor was, and when he came to visit me in my hospital room, he started off by blaming all my chestpains and shortness of breath and all the other symptoms I was having on the bubbles in the soda pop!!!!!! I couldn't believe it....I just didn't know what to say I was so shocked, and this was the Cardiologist on staff as well. In the end they said they just didn't know. I was discharged today, and I am going in for an event monitor on the Sept. 1, and seeing my regular cardiologist on the 8th of September, as the hospital cardiologist finally came to the conclusion that I am having atrial fibrullation, and I have been put on a blood thinner while I was in the hospital and might be going on it depending upon what my Doc says. I am going to listen to my doctor before I will listen to these other 2 bozo's. I don't have time nor the patience to be able to put up with their guessing games, or attitude for that matter. Sorry, I didn't mean to vent, but I thought I would share with all of you guys the quality of medical care that we have here in NH. This has left me absolutely Exhausted and down right worn out. Take Care, Harrybaby666

Oh Yeah, I forgot something....

Oh Yeah, I forgot something....

I was not doing anything strenuous at the time..I simply walked into my pain care dr's office and she took my pulse and it was at 153. When they saw that pulse rate, they asked me if I had done too much, and I said no, but I did do what I could for housework, and then they told me to call my Cardiologist, who in turn told me go get my butt to the ER..and the rest is history.....Harrybaby666

Doctors!!! Honestly, it's hard to believe how incompetent some of these guys can be!! I hope that something useful comes from the event monitor.... and keep us posted on how you go with the blood thinner.

Best wishes
Anna : )

ER doctors are not always the best. Took mother by ambulance to ER - she was nearly screaming in pain; my mother never screamed in her life before that day, so we knew it was bad. He took xrays, said he couldn't find anything wrong with her, wanted to send her home!!!!!!!!! I asked him to call her own dr and let me talk to him - he called her own dr who admitted her on the spot without me ever having to say one word. She died 9 days later - still in the hospital. I swear to this day that the guy was NOT even a doctor. But it's what we sometimes have when we go to ER but we always hope for the best. Our incident was a rarity, I am sure, but it does happen.

Harry, at least it opened the door for your regular cardiologist to step in to see what is going on. You will keep us posted, I hope.

I've personally known some excellent ER/Trauma doctors, but unfortunately for those going to the ER this position tends to be one that the doctors get burned out on. I worked at a hospital that was a level III trauma center and the "head" doctor was a woman who had been there her entire career. Another unfortunate is that not everyone has access to an ER like this.

Good luck to you Harry, you're about due for a run of good luck! :)

Sorry about your experience, Harry. It must be very frustrating. Sometimes when someone has a long complicated medical history like yours then it becomes problematic as to what the ER doctor can do to best help you out. I'm glad the ER doc must have made the call to at least get you in for tests.
I too have known both good and not so good ER physicians and like Bryan, I feel fortunate to live close to an ER that I consider to be well run.

I'll be waiting to hear about your Sept. 8th appointment. In the meantime, remember that if you are at rest then 153 is always too much. The doctor at the pain clinic should have done an EKG to take a look at what was going on with your heart. How did she get an uneven number taking your pulse? Did she count a full minute or use some piece of equipment?

Harry, so sorry you had such a bad experience in the ER and the hospital. Glad you will be following up with your own cardio. Hope they can figure out what is/was going on.

Hang in there.
