My Aunt, who I was named after..Middle name, Kate. died last week at age 96. My cousin, her daughter, told me when she placed her Mother there 6 years ago. she figured she would live 6 months..$3,000 a month:eek: My aunt owned quite a huge acres of timber. so they would log trees to keep her in there. 3 years..her and Daddy's brother died and left them a good sum of money. (NO children) My cousin told me..they had just about run out of that too. My Aunt was not sick..just too old to keep home..Everyone working and she was so demanding. Couldn't keep home care for her. Most members are too young to worry about this..but was wondering if anyone had a policy for Nursing home care? Is it too late to get Daddy one..Bonnie

I know you can get long term care policies to cover nursing home expenses, but they are very very pricey and probably more expensive the older the person is that you are trying to insure.

My husband and I have them through GE, I think it is. I have the policies at home and not at work with me here. If you want the name of the company, I could get it for you tomorrow, but I am sure there are many companies that offer that type of coverage.

Bonnie-

You might also want to consult an attorney who specializes in nursing home preparations. They can help you through some of the sticky wickets.

Not too late, however insurance will investigate him before accepting and if they accept him, it will be expensive. I have a best friend who runs an insurance office and I will email you her phone number tomorrow (there's an 800 one and I have to email her to get it) - I will send her this thread so she can be thinking of it before she gets your call. It can get muddled easily in nursing home and assisted living care. There are levels of care and that is where the cost comes in. But June can give you all the info you want and can handle at one time. Her agency represents one of the country's best.

My brother is in assisted living, as you know. He has a bedroom, sitting room, large closet, large bath/shower, a tiny kitchen section with microwave and small fridge, sink, cabinets and drawers. He must bring his own furnishings. He has his cat, too. Nursing staff arranges his meds, there's a large dining room and food served three times/day with snacks furnished by the tenants themselves - no snacks from kitchen. His room is cleaned a couple times per week and laundry done and hung up or placed where it belongs. His cost is about 2000 and he's a level one because he's pretty much self-sufficient. He has Parkinson's.
