My brother has it. He noticed it first in the 70s, went to a neurologist; they tested, said his blood flow was fine and that it was his 'nerves' in his feet.
It went further on upwards. His feet used to look lilac, but they were warm so we knew there was no circulation problem, but it sure looked like it. He would say he couldn't feel his feet. Eventually he had pain - lightning strikes, he called them, in his feet.
His feet feel cold to him, but warm to my touch; he gets stubbed toes occasionally and a bump in the shin, but doesn't know it because he can't feel. A couple months ago I took him to a new neurologist who examined carefully and found that his lack of feeling has advanced to the knee.
On the other hand, my nurse cousin also has peripheral neuropathy and has had it for years. Dr gave her an antidepressant (a very old and cheap one - a little yellow pill). She took that for a year or so and she has no trouble at all now. except a rare 'lightning strike'. Maybe you will be this lucky.
If you have any specific questions, I will try to answer.
