Hi. If any of you guys still remember me. Back in college i was playing competitive basketball. But right now i am no longer in competitive level. But i still want to bulk up and continue doing my workout in gym. Recently my weight has gained from 69-73. Height 180. My target is 75. I have been taking whey and deciding going to a pre creatine dose for my workout. Is it fine? & once i hit my targeted weight i am going to do high reps workout instead of heavy low reps. Currently my BAV is still in a mild situation. Im 20 this year.

Dont worry much and live your life. :) Just that when you work out dont catch your breath. Breath as you workout and dont take your weights to a limit where you are barely able to pick and you turn red and stuff. :) i made all those mistakes. Though i dont know if that is the reason but i had to get my av repaired at 23. :)

If your BAV is developing stenosis (stiffening, valve doesn't open all the way), then the high-reps/low to moderate weight will work just fine. That's what my cardio recommended to me as my stenosis was progressing. I don't know what the protocol would be for a regurgitant (leaking backward) valve. My cardio also told me I could do all the aerobic/cardio-vascular exercise (jogging, bicycle, walking, etc.) that I wanted. This would help my heart and body to stay strong and possibly delay the time when surgery would become necessary. I was able to stretch things out another 9 years after diagnosis, having my valve replaced at age 63.

I think that in the mild stages of valve disease, they pretty much just watch the patient. There are few, if any, restrictions unless they see evidence of weakening of your aorta, in which case they would restrict activities that raise your blood pressure. You probably have some years to go before surgery is needed, so as AmyR said, live your life and enjoy it. Keep up with your scheduled medical checkups and just do what they tell you to do.

With your BAV being in a mild condition I wouldn't worry too much. There are recommendations from different cardiac societies on what sports you're allowed to do according to the severity of your regurgitation / stenosis. They seem to be a good rule of thumb for the "average" valve patient. Since you are young and active go ahead and live your life. I was diagnosed with severe regurgitation a couple of months ago. I'm a bit older then you, but still active and do weight lifting and running. If possible, I will until the day before surgery. I'm convinced that I will tolerate the procedure much better if I'm still fit.

Hey thanks AmyR, epstns & Tirone. May i ask you guys that if one day i have reach the stage whereby i need to have my valve being replace. May i workout as a normal human being even with mechanical valve + the medicine where i have to take to have my blood to be thinner.

Do not change your life any. Do what you want to do, and when time comes for replacement it will come no matter what you do now. So live, lift, and enjoy!
Matter of fact, being in better physical shape will prepare you for better recovery and getting back to weight sooner.
