Kristy

Hi all,
Been lurking a while, finally registered. I am scheduled for AVR on 4/12/06 at Oregon Health Science University -- so maybe I am #10?

Thanks to all of you who post so much - it is helpful to know I am not alone at this scary time.

Kristy

Hi Kristy...
WELCOME!!!!:D ...

Another mountaneer for April...
gee we are going for a record month here !:D
Your recruiting drive is working well Ross!

You will have to tell us your story quickly Kristy so we can get to know you before you are in La-La-Land!

Mr Emu...I am getting one of our VR.com favourites the St Judes :D with the long white Dacron-sock thingy attatched...;) ...

It really is weird to be so excited about this. I could see mum was quietly worried about what I had just signed up for but hey so was I when I first heard all about this deal...I soon learnt that there was no escaping it. If I wanted to live a long healthy life with my family.

I made it my priority to get over it and get on with it! and that for me meant getting the Op earlier rather than later when I may have one of "those-episodes" and we all know how they change our chances drastically.

Mum is now busy telling all the relatives and getting them on-the-program too!

Hubby and kids, mmmm , well theyre boys what else would you expect them to be doing but to be in denial and self-absorbed still!...

I have ordered a weekend on Rotto (Rottnest Island ;) for relaxation purposes !...didnt think to have it for pre-surgery but it could be worth a try, dont like our chances of getting in @ Easter holidays but I can always try for a cancellation and some sympathy and see if we can score a room for 2 nights.

Have booked our pre-admissin tour on the 12th April ...
As for my Surgery I go in on Wednesday the 19th after lunch about 2pm Perth-time ( which is 10pm Tuesday 18th Pacific-time) and will stay over-night so I cant flee the state or eat any no-nos or go on a binge the night before :p ...I didnt ask what time I get the happy juice and when they start cutting etc ;) ...but I will find out...
I went web-surfing and found a few different sites that work out the time differences for you...I will get back to you and post up US times as soon as I know what local time here it will be...

it is now 6pm local Perth-time so that means this mama has to cook dinner for her hungry boys...

see you all later

thanks heaps for all holding my hand...
ps...all air-line tickets are "in the mail!" :D

Kristy,

It is scary, just try not to think about it too much, keep busy, etc. Arrange to have a friend/parent/spouse/significant other in the hospital the first couple days with you, it really helps. :)

Hello, Hello!! I'm sorry that I seem to have missed your post several days ago. Yes, please do tell us more about yourself!! I'm right in town, Portland metro area. My surgery will be at a different hospital, and a few days later, on April 18th. How long have you known of your condition? Is it aortic stenosis, or aortic insufficiency, or ???? What age group do you fall into? Have you chosen a type of valve? Have you a good support group around you for the recovery?

Hmmm......maybe as many quesitons as you may have of us!! Please ask away. Start a new thread for different topics, if you want. Use the PM (Private Message) if you wish to speak to anyone privately. It's quite easy to use, just up there in the right corner.

Welcome, Kristy!! Fear not!! This community is wonderful and can help you through just about everything!

:D Marguerite

Welcome, and such short notice! April is going to be a busy surgery month. I hope his finds you calm and ready to go. There are several of the ladies in the group with April dates with Harley and I being the token guys.
If to you need a place to vent this is the spot or a shoulder to lean on, it is all here. I have you on the calender and will be sending a few prayers your way.
Philip

Welcome Kristy and best wishes on the 12th. Ask away with any last minute questions and I hope you will have someone post for you after you climb the mountain.

Definatly not alone and this forumn is such a big help... i even found that i had people to call the day before my surgery that lived here in my hometown that comforted me... good luck.. its not as bad as it seems...

Not true -- I am April 12 also -- 8:15 in the morning. They want me there at 6:15.

I hate this terminology I keep hearing - things like cracking open the sternum (probably chisel and all). I'd prefer hearing something a LOT less horrific -- like cutting open using a fine-toothed saw, or even laser cut - :)

All the very best to you too Der...

I kinda imagined they would be using an angle-grinder :D ...thought it would make a quick neat cut  ...

Yep,
April is filling up quickly!:p :p
Glad you thought you'd like to join in the fun, Kristy!
