Jane Brody, the New York Times columnist who writes the "Your Personal Health" column in "Science Times" has a piece on colonoscopies in the July 12 issue. It's a good article except toward the end she says simply that persons undergoing colonoscopies must "... stop taking medications that can cause bleeding a week before."
Which is fine if you are just talking about taking a tylenol instead of aspirin if you get a headache, but NOT fine if you are talking about coumadin/warfarin. I wrote an email to Ms. Brody (whose columns I generally find very informative) asking her to consider this issue in future columns. I'll post again if I get any response from her.
Here's the URL for the colonoscopy column, if anybody's interested in reading it: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/12/health/12brod.html?
