I'm so excited, I feel like a kid on Christmas morning! I received my new Protime home monitoring kit. Hallelujuah, there will be no more 3-4 hour waits in outpatient to have my PT/INR done. There will be no more "lost faxes" and miscommunication (hopefully). A nurse from Raytel spent over an hour training me yesterday. I successfully completed checking my blood while on the phone with her. Next Thursday, I'm supposed to demonstrate self checking with my cardio's nurse. Then, I'll be on my own. If there is any tid-bits of information that any of you might have about home testing, please let me know. Thanks!!

Even though I don't have one (I've tried and I'm jealous), it sounds like you've mastered it to me.

Congratulations.

Did I mention that I was jealous

Soon you'll ask yourself how you got along without it and you will find Al Lodwicks dosing chart invaluable. The monitor and chart are a matching pair.

It really is a great feeling to "do it yourself". DIY INR monitoring.

I am so happy for you!! :) You will love the convenience of your new home tester!!! :)

I try to pick a certain day of the week that I test & I try to stay consistent w/that day, whether you're going to test weekly for a while or every other week or whatever.

I also make sure & write down on the calendar my INR reading on the day I tested & the dosage that I'm going to take that day. (I keep a record of my dosages every day on a calendar & if I have to make adjustments, I make sure to write that down so I can see a pattern.) You can choose whatever way to record your readings & dosages, that's just what I do. (Your machine, I'm sure, has a memory also of your readings in case you or your doctor need to check.)

Good luck & if you have questions, don't be afraid to ask! :)
