WEll, for you that know me know that I have had a hard time with my primary care Dr. So today I got on the phone and started calling trying to find one that will take medicare and go to the hosp. the rest of my specialists go too! I have and App. on thur. of this week not a month from now this week. There are only two woman Dr. in this office and I can say both of their names. My daughter the RN said she has a meeting that day so she would be unable to go with me but she will help write a list of questions to ask her. So before theses other Dr.'s have a chance to mess me up again I've became proactive for my own life. I have been with my old internist since 1991 and it is hard for me to change but it past due. But like Ross & Al said, they were going to be the death of me yet!
Thanks for everyone support! :D

I do hope this works out for you. You need someone that is going to pay attention and not play games with your health. Just because your on Medicare does not give them a right to give you substandard care.

Good luck and let us know how it works out. :)

WooHoo!! Good for you! Out with the old, and in with the new. Certainly can't be much worse than what you have had, so it has all the potential of being a great improvement.

Hoping for smooth sailing from now on.

OK Sherrin...It's My turn....LOL

OK Sherrin...It's My turn....LOL

I am really happy that you have found some new docs...I have decided to seek out a new Primary Care Dr. myself as I don't feel as though he has listened to one thing I have said without discounting my symptoms in some way. I just wanted to show my support...YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! Someone is actually giving you the treatment that you deserve, and not what they think you should have because you are on Medicare...Cool Beans...and I wish you the best of care with your new Dr.s Harrybaby :D :D :D   :D :D

Thanks everyone for your support! :D This is why I love you all so much! Your own family just don't get it sometimes  This kind of support is priceless!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy for you Sharrin. I can sense the hope in your post.

Hi Sherrin,

All the best to you. Good docs, as you know are difficult to find. Just because they have the degree...does not mean they are right for us. Think the problem is most of them are not trained or do not have many patients like us. We are in large number on VR.com. But overall, few and far between.

Take care. Good luck. I always say....."it can't get any worse than it already is". ;)

Great news, Sherrin!

Gina, I think you are right. Knowing as many people, as we all do here on this board, with valve problems, we begin to assume everyone has the same level of awareness that we do. My first cardiologist revealed to me that I was only the second patient he had ever had with mitral stenosis. The other had been years prior and in a different state. I credit him for not being afraid to tell me that and recognizing that doctors just don't see that much of it anymore. Even though I really like my new cardiologist I don't have any illusions that he would pick up on any subtle changes. I don't fault him for this. It is just one reason I believe we have to be pro-active in our own behalf. Good medical care is a team effort and we have to be a full part of the team.

Sherrin, your problems have been very complex and I really hope someone gets a handle on what is happening. Please let us know as soon as you find out something. Organize and bring your test results and try to make a chronological list of major cardiac related events. This may help make your visit more productive.

As much as you may feel like doing it, try not to slam your current doctors when you are meeting the new one. They tend to get on the defensive and it would be to no one's benefit. It seems to me you have had so many doctors all lending a hand but no one really interested in being in charge. I hope you find one willing to take on that role. Good Luck!

new docs

Hi Sherrin,

Congrats on finding yourself a new Doc! It is exciting and exhausting all at the same time! I myself really like my family Doctor she is a sweet heart and very easy to talk to. My Cardio and Pulm are also great .. but it is so frustrating having so many Doctors .. something I think we all agree on .. you
never really know who to call about what. .. Best of Luck though!

Erica

Getting in with a new doctor is a hard thing to do. Some things you'll have to start all over again with her.

But it's worth it. Taking charge just makes you feel full of vinegar, doesn't it?

Best wishes,

I hope it all goes well Sherrin. A good doctor is worth thier weight in gold and if you find one HOLD ON TIGHT!!! :D

A : )

Sherrin,

You have definitely taken a step in the right direction. Even if this one is not THE doctor for you, you have begun the process. I did this in chaniging cardio's and may end up changing PCP's within the year. Next visit will tell.

One point that Gina made, I think, is an important distinction. Many of us in the larger cities have the luxury of being able to search out cardiologists and doctors with specialties in our own need areas. This is really a help in finding good quality care and a relationship with our medical support teams. Those of us who are in smaller communities or are otherwise restricted in the choice of care team members are at a distinct disadvantage and have a much more difficult time finding quality care.

Stay with the search. It will definitely be worth it. Good luck on Thursday!
