Apparently a Calgary researcher has invented a bra that reduces post op breast pain after heart surgery. A study of 481 women in 10 cities across Canada shows that those who wore the bra had significantly less post-operative breast pain and discomfort compared to women in a control group.

Here's a link to the story that ran on the weekend in the National Post, one of our Canadian national newspapers....

Hooray for good bras!

Hooray for good bras!

The one that I woke up with after my Cleveland Clinic surgery in April could have protected me from any major calamity. Very protective, very comfortable and actually rather attractive.....considering! I had absolutely no pain or discomfort to speak of except the first time I took it off to shower. ! It was my best friend for about 4 weeks!

That is very nice of you to post that for the ladies!!

No one mentioned a support bra to me. The hospital had none to offer. I was prepared though (thanks to VR.com) and had purchased a surgical bra and a surgical vest from www.adaptations4u.com Theirs are rather hidden in the site but the 2 options have velcro closings in front. They are made by a company called Golda. The best price that I found at the time, though, was at the 4U place http://www.adaptations4u.com/item.php?cat=Surgical+Bras&next=0
I found that the velcro in front wreaked some havoc on the sensitive scar area so I wore one of my husband's "wife-beater" t-shirts underneath (ah, nice soft cotton) and was very very grateful to have that support.

I am 6 months post-op (and actually still wearing a soft bra at night....still having pain). When I was looking for something online 8 months ago, there were only a few resources. Now, if you google surgical bra, you get quite a list. I didn't check all of them. I must say that a site called ****ydo in UK caught my eye. :p :p :p I think these bras are a must for breast surgeries. Cleveland Clinic also specifies one.

I remember posting something about it here and getting lots of good feedback.
