Well I have finally put my name on the new wheels! After a false start when a few bills came our way that delayed the purchase I've made the leap and ordered the bike - which should arrive next week. With our weather starting to warm up I should be able to crack the 5000km mark by the end of the year (currently about 4500km - started riding after November AVR on January 1). The Trek got the nod given by way of their lifetime frame warranty - its pretty hard to go past that. I was originally going for the model down but decided to splurge a tad more when the shop owner said the promotional blurb was wrong and the wheelset on the 2000 had completely sealed bearings. Given the amount of crud you seem to pick up when the weather turns bad that seemed to be a good investment.

Im planning on competing in a triathlon around Nov20 which is a 400/18/4 distance - or maybe a smaller sprint one prior to that dependent on my swimming / running capability (or lack thereof as the case maybe!)I'll keep you posted!

So now Ive posted that Im going to do it I'll have to stick to my plan...

Sweet bike!

Sweet bike!

Gorgeous, Russell!

You will no doubt pile up the KMs on that fast, plush ride. I have finally learned in my old age that possessions are not the key to happiness in life (tough lesson for a Yank ;) )...the exception being a nice bike!!

I am happy for you - ride safely. And keep us posted on that November tri.

Russell: Sweet ride,my friend! I have a Trek 5200 which has served me well. Enjoy racking up the miles and I can't wait to hear your race reports!

Wow !!! She's a beauty - your sure to have lots of fun. I bought a new Giant last year - rode her several times right after I got her. I took her out this year and ran into a stone wall. Actually, I think the stone wall jumped out in front of me.. I'm fine - the bike is fine.. Just lots of bruises - which I recovered nicely from. So last week I bought the set up to use it as a stationary bike in the house. BUT, my hubby is remodeling and there isn't a spot to set her up.. SO I joined the club again and went to spinning class twice this week. Such problems !!!

I did a 5k road race this morning and took First Place out of ONE in my age category. Yes, the competition was 'tough' :) but I got a beautiful 'trophy' for this race. Its nice to finally be in the 50's age category !!! No where near the competition as the 40's age group.. Some races like this one - there's not competition.. But that's OK - I've earned the right to slow it down and come out ahead for once.. :)

I hope you have lots of FUN at your triathlon... One bit of advice - "watch out" for those stone walls.

Best Wishes
Marilyn

Russell,
Great looking ride! Trek puts out some nice stuff. I think you'll really enjoy this bike and because of that, you'll end up putting some good miles in. Can't wait to get back on my bike, which is only a few weeks away. So, enjoy!

Congratulations Russel! What a sweet ride. May you have many miles with no mechanicals.

Cheers

Cheers

I just need to discipline myself to stay off it to complete the other training requirements of swimming and running - but I can definately feel a few long Sat/Sun morning rides coming on!

I hope the saddle is a bit friendlier than my existing old bruiser on the current bike !

Actually, I think the stone wall jumped out in front of me.. I'm fine - the bike is fine..
Marilyn ...yep you just have to watch out for them moving walls and trees along with motorists who believe that 25mm / 1 inch is more than enough space for cyclists between their car and the kerb.

Thats a bit like my personal best in the City to Surf 12km race that I'd never done before...Like they say statistics is a wonderful thing!!! :D

regards to all

Russell
