So I changed my avatar today in memory of our Bernese Mountain Dog which we had to put to sleep last night. We had him 8 years, 3 months and 11 days. The best dog I've ever had. I still can picture him all excited when I came home from the hospital and telling him not to jump up on me!

I am so sorry for your loss. He had such a sweet face.

Beyond the Rainbow
As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.

I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful--lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.

I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
'Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.
For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.

Tom,

Having lost several good friends, including one that came to shower us with that unconditional love for over 17 years, I can feel you pain today. These guys, be it cat, dog or something else, grab hold of your heart and never let go. During the next several months, remember all the good times y?all shared. And rest assured that one day he will be waiting at that Rainbow Bridge to have his ears scratched once again.

By the way, what was his name?

May God provide you comfort in this loss,

Danny

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks for the poem and comments....Jethro (as in the Beverly Hillbillies) was a typical BMD....slow and steady and sometimes dumb, just like a Jethro should be!

Tom,

So very sorry to hear of your loss. The avatar is a great way to pay tribute. The term "man's best friend" is certainly full of truth. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about ever losing Sadie dog, the greatest one I've ever had, so I feel for what you are going through. As Bubba says, cherish the good memories.

Im really sorry for your loss. I know the pain of loosing such a great friend. I lost my gorgeous Yorkie ''Misty'' when she was only 6 years old...broke my heart. We have another now....''Suzie'' ...shes a little darling...I dread anything ever happening to her....the pain is so great. I feel for you !!!!

Sorry for your loss. Jethro looks so sweet.

Our Boxer, Jo (named by my then 5-year-old son after the underwear) is coming up on 10 years. We got her when I was home recovering from MVR and she helped me get my exercise. I've read that the lifespan of Boxers averages 10 years, 4 months, and she is definitely slowing down. I dread the day.

Tom I'm so sorry for the loss of your furry friend. I have lost so many over the years and every time it's so hard. They become part of the family. Only animal lovers understand this feeling! My little bichon frise is going on 15 and I know her time is coming soon and I hate to think about it. I always tell myself after one of my little (or big) furry friends pass that I'm not going to get another one but after a while one always seems to appear. Hugs coming your way.

Aye, Tom ... sorry for your loss.... Always tough losing a "furry" member of the family.....
