Now the frustrations are really hitting me. As I posted last week, I had scheduled aortic root replacement and aortic valve replacement (I have a BAV) for Jan 13th. I had my cath on Tuesday and my cardiologist said he was 'surprised' at the size of my aneurysm. The cath measurement of the root aneurysm was 5.6cm. In mid Dec, a CT scan measured it at 4.8cm. So, I interpreted the difference as an increase in size. My cardiologist said that's not a correct interpretation because each test gives a different measurement. I'm so confused and bewildered by these 'numbers' that get thrown around and relied upon for surgery when there is no baseline. After hearing my cath results, I have decided to move my surgery up. The earliest I could get in is Monday, Jan 9th. Please be thinking of me.

On a side note, has anyone heard of a vest-like device that is worn over the sternum post-surgery? My mom heard something about this and wants to buy me one but doesn't know where to look. It's supposed to alleviate some of the discomfort.

Thanks to all. You truly are fabulous people.

Not to make you nervous, but chances are that thing is going to be larger then any of the diagnostics suggest once the surgeon is in there.

Your looking for a heart hugger. The link to it is on the main homepage. Some people like them, some don't. Same with the medical community. It's a convenience, not a neccessity. Remember, many of us never had such things.

The cath is a very invasive test, and so it gives more accurate results than a CT scan or an echo -- at least, that's my theory. Surgery is even more invasive yet, and it will give even more accurate results. The less invasive tests indicate whether or not there is need to go on to a more invasive kind of test.

I shall be praying for you Michelle.....

How lucky for you that they will operate on you and were even able to fit you in on Monday....

Thats wonderful...

I wouldnt get too worried about those measurements at this stage of your journey.Mine was 4.8 on all 3 tests done within the 1 month( 2 Echo's a CT & MRA)...it wont make any difference for you now as they already have that tray of sparkly new bits ordered with your name on it ...

You will be safe til Monday ...I am sure they have you on the good Blood pressure pills ... you'll be fine.

:D ..youre almost over that mountain:D ...

I am really pleased for you Michelle that they could get you in even earlier...I hope less worry time does you good..I know it would me...

I will be waiting impatiently like everyone-else here for a post-surgery post reporting on your sucess....

Michelle, you're saving yourself a few days of worry - good idea.

Have a good weekend - eat, drink and be merry - see a movie, go spend some money, get really comfortable cozy jammies for recovery. Pack some good times into the next 3 days.

We'll be thinking of you.

I hope everything works out well for you!! I think in your previous post, you stated that your measurement had risen quickly and this made the surgery a necessity. It just so happens that it is probably still growing.I think it is a good idea that you moved your surgery up.I know it is frightening to find out the new size but at least you are staying on top of things.
