Has anyone had to have a nerve block? Since decreasing my steroids my pain has returned with a vengence. My doc has me using a gadget called a TENS unit. This TENS unit disrupts nerve impulses with a mild electrical stimulation through the skin. This has helped some but has not completely stopped the pain. Sine this did not completely alleviate the problem my doc wants me to have a nerve block. I am not so sure I like the idea. If anyone else has had one I would appreciate your comments.

Lettitia,
Hi, I had a MVR five years ago and have been having a tremendous amount of back and chest pain for the past four or so months. My doctor's ordered a million tests plus I'm having a T.E.E. tomorrow to recheck the valve, but my general practitioner said if that all checks out then he's ordering a nerve block. I didn't catch why you were having one and what lead up to that. Would you tell me your history and why your doctor's ordering the block? Thanks, Sherry

Sherry,

I had an aortic valve replacement, a pulmonary valve replacement and a repair of a pulmonary artey anuerysm in August of 2001. I have traumatic arthritis in my sternum and scar tissue is in around my heart and my lungs from my surgery. I recently had a round of steroids to try and decrease the inflammation in my chest muscles but as soon as we started to taper my steroids the pain returned. This is when my G.P. suggested that I consider a nerve block.
