Hi All,

Well here we are on December 3rd. I have been waiting since September 15 th for my MVR &AVR so that my supplemental insurance would go into effect before the surgery. The surgeon said to wait to schedule till December 1st, Which is 6 months to the day it went into effect. I had to wait 6 months because it was a pre-existing condition.

My question is -- how long should I wait until I actually schedule the surgery? A week, 2 weeks?

I want to make sure that AFLAC doesn't come back and make a deal out of my waiting until after the six months.

Thanks,

Carla

Like they're not going to know what happened . . . They're used to dealing with this - lots and lots of people count those pre-existing condition months to the second. And AFLAC certainly sees it. And they're the ones who put the requirement into their policies, so I can assure you that you won't be the first.

Go ahead and schedule - they have to comply with their contract.

Good luck and let us know.

I am assuming they were aware of your condition before issuing the policy. I know that individual policies treat pre existing conditions differenlty than groups. I know that I had a 1 year waitng period for my disability to kick in because of my heart condition. I asked my boss if now that I have the replacement and applied for insurance would this be treated differently? She said it would be treated the same. We all have Aflac here at work but didn't buy anything other than the cancer. Can't look back now.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. My surgeon's office called right after I posted and wanted to schedule. Talked with them about this and they said the same thing Georgia said.

Carla,

In addition to what everyone else has said, remember that you've been paying the premiums for the last six months.

I say, schedule your surgery, start collecting disability, and enjoy it; it's exactly what you've been paying AFLAC for.
