Joe transferred over to the rehab facility (inpatient) today. It's right next to the hospital and is a fantastic facility with an excellent rep. His day was spent on evaluations. Tomorrow, he'll start actual rehab. From what we were told it will take up about 4 hours per day. I can't even visit him until the late afternoon, however, today I was able to stay with him for the entire day to get things worked out from one facility to another.

He is still only able to walk with a walker about 150 feet or so, and can't climb stairs. But they'll get all that taken care of. The people there have been very nice and very helpful.

It's quite a different feeling than being in a medical facility. For one thing, all patients have to start right off doing rehab in their street clothes, so they take you right from dressing yourself through to getting into bed.

He's still in a lot of pain, and the bruise is enormous, still bleeding into the bruise a little. They're trying to keep his INR at the low end of therapeutic, but control is hard because he is taking pain medication intermittently. And as we all know that makes INRs see-saw.

After my dear Joe had a stroke, he was in rehab for a month. Each day was just like going to his job every morning. They started soon as they got up and worked all day - he, however, had no other health problems like Joe has with heart valves, etc. So guess our Nancy's Joe has got a 'job' for awhile. Wish him well for us, Nancy. We're rootin him on.

Nancy, sorry for this late reply, but I just saw your other thread about Joe's fall. I'm keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Nancy and Joe,

We have NOT been on the site for a few days. Joann and I are VERY sorry to hear about Joe. You both have been through so much and yet have a very positive attitude.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Please let us know if we can be of assistance.

God Bless!

Hi Nancy

Hi Nancy

Time for an update on our Joe..How is he doing in rehab..more important, how are you doing?.....Let us know..We love you both :) Bonnie

He's doing OK with rehab, but it makes the bruised areas extremely sore, so it's hard. I really need to take a pic of this bruise, you can't believe it. I'd post it, but it's on his back and side from above his waist to below his knee. He looks like a tatooed man. Maybe I can drape it carefully.

Right now, I am worried about his diet which is a no added salt diet, and is not low enough in sodium for Joe. Tomorrow is weigh-in morning. I hope the nurse remembers. If he's over his allotted weight limit, I'm going to have to have "speaks" with the dietician, and the doctor. They apparently don't know how to cook a no salt diet. Can't have CHF sneeking up and getting a foothold. He's already on 320 mg Lasix each day.

The people at the place are wonderful, and that's a big plus. Everyone is so patient. They take care of some very, very difficult cases, spinal cord injuries, strokes, car and motorcycle accidents, much worse than Joe's.

I'm doing fine. Just wish this hadn't happened.

Dear Nancy:

I am so glad to hear that Joe is improving...steadily. I know you will be on top of them regarding the salt. Both of you are real troopers. I again thank you and Joe for the input you have had over the past three and a half years. It has helped me tremendously, keeping me alert to problems, and even as importantly, knowing when something was not a problem. But, like you said, everything having to do with these guys is complicated.

Best wishes to you and Joe. - Marybeth

I'm glad to hear that Joe is making progress
and that the two of you are holding up OK.

You two are an inspiration to ALL of us to
"Never give in and never give up".

I look forward to reading of Joe's full recovery!

hi nancy,
a little late, but i was so sorry to hear about joe's fall.
i'm glad that he is improving daily.
i can totally relate to his extremely painful hematoma (just got over this with my dad a few months ago)...and i also know that it's complicated juggling coumadin and hematomas...
i wish you and joe all the best and i hope he feels and heals better with each new day. be well.
thinking of you, sylvia
