Today we took a hike along a beautiful little stream near our house. I took a few different pictures of wildflowers, and have posted "full size" pictures of all three on my blog (see link below).

The Contest: I don't know the common (or scientific) names of these flowers. The contest is to be the first to name all three, with extra points if you find and name the butterfly in one of the pictures. To name the flowers respond to this post (which will establish a time priority). At the present the blog refers to the images as flower #1, 2, etc. An answer should be something like this..."the common name for flower #1 is _______. Good luck!

The prize: I will make and send one of my greeting cards to the winner. To claim the prize, you will have to send me a PM with your address. If the winner's address is outside the U.S., you will need to give me instructions on how to get you prize to you.

Here is a smaller version of my favorite image:

Kind of resembles the buttercup family could it be Clematis
or violet all i can think of:confused:

Hey guys: As it says in the initial entry, there are a total of three flowers (and one butterfly) to be identified. To see them you need to click on the blue link to the blog that you see underneath my posts.

This whole identification thing is obviously harder than I thought. Based on past experiences, I figured people would have nailed in in a few minutes. It now appears that it may be hard to make a definitive identification, but go ahead and give it a shot. I have a friend who is a career botanist, and if there is a dispute as to what these are, I can give him a shot. If it helps, remember that all of these were growing wild by a mountain stream.

The very bottom one I believe is a Polemonium Reptans or more commonly known as Jacob's Ladder. The other two I can't quite figure out as it is hard to see the leaves to help identify it further.

okey dokey

I THINK::::::

1) Pansy or violet family
2) butterfly shrub or bush
3) clematis
4) monarch butterfly is your butterfly

Well even if they're all wrong :rolleyes:it was definately fun guessing

I still can't link to your blog, Dennis! Just tried!:(

There will be at least 1 prize going out to "zipper 2" upon receipt of sufficient information to address the prize. That should probably be sent to me by private message.

I am prepared to send out at least 1 more prize to someone who takes a shot at identifying the three flowers and butterfly. Sorry this turned out to be so hard.
