Hi All,

Has anyone experienced this test??? I am going to have one in September and would like personal info if anyone has had one. I've looked it up on the web, so I understand the technical explantion. Anything new is always scary for me...the more I know, the better I feel.

This is being done just as a "it's time" to check every thing out. No new symptoms or problems. Thanks for any input!!!!

Never heard of the test, but it has a sexy, poetic, rhyming title. One could only hope it's as good as its name. Do tell, after it's all over!:p

Thanks for responding, Nancy. It's actually a chemically induced stress test with various agents used I gather. More commonly referred to as a Nuclear Stress test or Thallium. I'm not allowed to do the regular treadmill stress test. I have had both CABG and Valve replacement, so maybe that's why the group here is unfamiliar. I got lots of help on it from my 'Heart-Buddies' at WebMD...soooooo..I'm still very apprehensive..lol! I don't think it's as 'sexy' a test as it sounded like to you..LOL! But thanks again for your reply.

Hi Zipper,

I wonder why they won't let you do a regular stress test?
I've heard of the 'chemical stress test' but never had one and don't know anyone who has gone through one although I know they do perform them locally.

I've also had CABG and AVR with a St. Jude Mechanical valve. I'm now in cardiac rehab and increasing my work load / time every session. I live in the country and have started doing yard some yardwork (hauling / burning fallen tree limbs, some mowing). Still get a little short of breath but not as bad as earlier in my recovery. One of my lungs / chest wall took a real beating !

Hi Zipper

My husband, Tyce, had a nuclear stress test a few years back.....not at all difficult. They did it right at the cardio's office. I can tell you to the best of my recollection, as it was a bit ago. I remember they injected him with something, then they gave him a regular stress test, but you won't have that and after that he had to lie down under a nuclear scanner. They then injected him with something else, and we had to go eat a high fat lunch....like Mcdonalds ff's burger and high fat shake....something about the nuc. scan reads better in fat. Then he had to come back and they did another nuclear scan, where he lays under a machine and they just rotate the camera over him--side to side. That was about it. He didn't hurt or anything like that, but I remember it taking a long time....also remember the way cool machine moving and making all the calculations above him. I'm sure that's no help at all to you, but it's all I remember. At that time they said he needed nothing done. I do remember they asked his height and weight before ordering the nuc. drugs, and then weighed and measured him again when we went for the actual test. All in all, it was about 3 hours, but that included lunch.

Hope that's a help!!

Hi Al and Evelyn,

Thanks for your reply..Al...My Cardiologist feels it's safer for me to have the Nuclear/rest-stress. It may be due to the fact that I also have Mitral Valve Prolapse and some lung damage from the aortic stenosis. He monitors me every 6 months but this is the first time he's ordered this test. Kinda scary...I hope I don't have new blockages..yikes!

Evelyn..yes, thank you..that does help to hear of anothers experience with this! I'm a little 'stressed' about the stress test..LOL! I think I'll tell my Doc so he'll realize I'm a nervous wreck!! Maybe he'll have me take a 'chill pill' or something..lol.

Take care,
