After 18 months in the waiting room it's my turn! I'm scheduled to have a combined aortic valve replacement and pulmonary vein isolation (to hopefully address Atrial Fibrillation and other electrical issues I have experienced for over 25 years) on 29 May 2013. I'm excited about getting a mechanical valve (the current human tissue one has lasted 11 years and 2 months - I can hardly complain), having more energy and having my third and hopefully last heart operation done and dusted. There is also slight nervousness, but not too much at this stage. Ask me closer to the date ...

Cheers.

Phil.

Hi Phil

I wish you all the best for your upcoming surgery. I see you had a human tissue valve (homograft / allograft), and that you got 11 years out of that. I'm curious. What age were you when you had it? I got nearly 20 out of mine and was reading (back at the 15 year point) that the average for my age group was more like 15 years. I'm sure glad I got as long as I did but would have got longer if not for an aneurysm. I was nearly 29 or so when I got mine.

Hi pellicle,
Thanks. I had a repair done to the valve in 1965 when I was aged 7 and had the replacement done in 2002 when aged 44.
Hope you are going ok.
Phil.
