I dont know for sure yet , but she seems to have hurt her leg. She acted like she wouldnt eat, so I grilled her some burgers and she ate them. But she cries while walking, so I have brought her into the house, in utility room, cooler for her and gave her an aspirin.
I know shes just a dog, but could some say a wish for her?
I really dont have vet money as we just had truck repaired again. Shes really a sweety...

I'm sure you have checked her foot for any foreign objects. I know that my dog can get lots of things between her toes, and even get pine pitch which is the absolute worst because to sets up hard, close to the skin and attracts small stones. She could even have some kind of sliver.

Maybe she sprained her leg or foot.

I hope she gets better very soon.

Does she limp, or just cry while she's walking? Which leg seems to be the issue? Our beloved cocker spaniol (RIP) blew out her ACL (knee) chasing a squirrel when she was about 7. Took her to the vets. They wanted to do surgery. She wasn't walking on that leg. The cost of the surgery was $600 (10 years ago) and we just couldn't afford it at the time. The vet had said she would walk on it again w/out surgery, but that she wouldn't run again, and would get painful arthritis. So the vet wrapped her knee for a few weeks. She gradually began walking on it and within the year was back to chasing squirrels. She never had another problem with it until we had to painfully say goodbye and "let her go" at the age of 14. She was a very resiliant dog.

I agree with Nancy, look to see if she has a foreign object causing the problem. If not, see what movement seems to be causing the pain. This will take 2 people, one to cradle her head so she doesn't bite. Check for swelling. If you find swelling, try holding a wrapping an ice pack around the area.

Poor Spaz - she has my prayers.

I hope you gave her the childrens asprin. When one of my family's dog her her leg and told us that after it healed, Mr. Arthistis would come knocking and give the dog a childs aspring for pain. I hope you did, and your baby feels better soon.

Poor wee thing!

Poor wee thing!

Although it's not life threatening, I know how worrying it can be. Do you have any idea of when exactly it started and how it might have happened? Could you ask the vet for some advice over the phone? If it was here in Brazil, you could take her to see the vet and pay later. I didn't have any money with me on the day Milady ate rat poison, but the vet, whom I'd never seen before accepted a pre-dated check, as we call it.

Just checked on her, she stood and is wagging her tail, her nose is cool again.I think she feels better, will see after she has some breakfast.. still praying she will be ok..love the pup

Sometimes they get a nail caught and break it. They will limp until it heals. Our Miss SS has done this, too. We never have figured out what it it.

Miss Sally Sue is ill, too. Late yesterday daughter discovered VERY swollen glands in her neck. A month ago I took her to the vet because she seemed to be choking - he gave her shots, but she has been off her feed since then. Now those glands are suddenly seriously large and she has trouble eating and drinking, so it's off we go today. I can't take her by myself. She won't get in or out of the car and her 60 lbs is more than I can handle alone. Luckily I have a cousin who will help me out. I really hate it when the animals get sick because they can't say where it hurts or how bad they feel. Then we humans are helpless. They are family members, after all, and we want the best for them that we can do.

Give her another hamburger... I bet she will feel better. I'm glad she's doing better today. It sucks when they can't tell you what's wrong.

Hi Yaps,

It's always stressing when one of our tail-waggers is feeling poorly, I'd sooner be sick than one of my dogs.

Have you any idea which part of the leg is affected?--heat, swelling, ligaments more lax when compared to the other leg?

One of my dogs tangelled with a porcupine, began limping and after carefully feeling each toe with my finger discovered a hard nodule and removed a broken off quill with tweezers. We were lucky, that ended the lameness. I sincerely hope your dog is improving.

Something else to look for with our furry friends. It's bur season here. We have a yard full of groundcover which makes little burs. I have found them in every imaginable place, my dog's mouth and nose area, private area, between her toes, on her legs and feet. She's been trained to be good and let me take them off. And she'll even try to show me where they are. Afterwards, she gives me a kiss to let me know that I got them all. I just say, "Brusha, brusha, Harriet (my phrase for brushing and grooming)", and she hops right up to be taken care of.

If I let them go, they will knot up her fur and make walking or running impossible.

She ate her breakfast, stuffed a sauage link with an aspirin, just checked her again and she ate her dog food.. whew! Yesterday she wouldnt touch her food. I think I will keep her in for a few more days just to be sure. But now she is standing when I come in , yesterday she just laid there, she had me scared!Shes really not young and I wonder if its arthritis getting her. But her nose is cold again, tail awagging.. :) I feel she will be ok. :p Thankyou all for caring :) love the pup

I just got back from taking Miss SS. She has an abcess in her throat and I still think it's been there developing since the last time I took her. He said he's probably going to have to drain it but it has to reduce in size first, so I just left her with him. He gave her a shot of antibiotics and she cried so - and I cried so. Yaps, don't we just hate this part of our pets lives. I just can't stand it.

Now I have to just take a nap.

Oh I cry, when Spaz cried yesterday.. I cant bear to hear a yipe, and a child crying will tear me up.. yes I cry... Pam I know she's not constipated as I saw her do business yesterday, that was when I saw her cry..and hold her leg, she could walk into the house but favored her leg. Im thinking it also may have been heat, even though she has a big tree and truck to go under. The heat index has averaged 110 most days.It may have contributed to her overall health, but I cant leave her in utility room forever, she's a big dog.
Im going to discuss with John on maybe having :p her inside daily back in yard nightly, cooler at night, gives utility room an airing..lol..Im just happy she feels better..

Yaps - the first thought I had after your post is...do dogs get hemorrhoids? I know that, from past experience, I could barely walk (I know, I know, too much information).
Lol,, I dont know,, but I do know I am not medicating that!

Henslyee - how does your girl get an abscess in her throat? That has got to be so painful! Poor baby! (you and your child!)

we never give her bones but a couple months ago I gave her some of those chew strips. Like Spaz, Yaps' dog, Miss Sally Sue is also a big dog 62 lbs today), including her mouth and teeth. She chewed those things and swallowed - maybe she didn't chew well enough and one got stuck on the way down. I can't think of anything else. When she was ill about six weeks ago, she was coughing like something was stuck in her throat and she couldn't get it up or down. I think whatever seemed to be stuck might still be in there and caused the abscess. If she was still little I might think it was one of her toys she ate - she used to pick up sticks outside, toss them up in the air herself and then chase them! Back then she could've eaten her 'toy' but she gave that up for better things when we decided to make her ours. I think it's a piece of chew strip that's still stuck.

Yaps, I insisted Miss SS be an outside dog, too, but when we finally decided to keep her, she'd be afraid of rain, get cold, look down in the mouth and sad. I began letting her in to eat, then to be in when it was rainy, then she came in when she wanted. Our outside dog became an inside/outside when she wanted dog. We live in the country and she has acres to play in, is spayed, of course, and does not wander away. She even has a buddy neighbor from down the road who stops by to play but she never goes to visit him.

Yaps, Your outside dog is hot - it's the same heat here. YOu need to get Spaz in the house during the hottest part of the day. Is Spaz afraid to death of thunder/lightning/rain? Miss SS shudders if it begins to cloud up.

I bring Spaz in during storms, and up until last year she could roam the hill, but one day my grandkids were playing with kids from the bottom of the road and Spaz was playing too, well she scratched neighbors kid ,not bad no bites, Spaz had to go to confinement for a week even though shes had her shots.. now Ive got to keep her chained... :( , she hates it, so I bring her indoors as often as I can, during last tropical storm , she stayed in utlity room for 72 hrs without messing, just used business when John could take her out. Weather didnt permit many outings, she was a good girl. She has been spayed so no worries there.
She is a dog who found me, I didnt find her, but shes a sweety with the prettiest face.. (cant tell I love her huh).. :)

Well, she is a lot better, had her in yard, big storm coming, didnt want her drowning so I was trying to bring her in..lol she dragged me in..I am bruised and swollen and dented.. she is so strong!I am taking a darvocet and pretending I died.........
