My husband & I are thrilled -- my sister's son is graduating from the University of Texas at Dallas on Saturday (May 6) with a bachelor of science in computer science -- magna cum laude.
Ryan graduated from high school in May 2003 and immediately began college. He went all year around and finished his undergraduate work in December 2005, but chose to wait until this month to graduate. This spring, he did 12 hours' graduate work in computer science (research & development, I think). He's doing a research project that will pay for most, if not all, of his graduate degree.
I think he's taking the summer off. He really deserves it. :)

We were unable to attend his high school graduation 3 years ago. I was 3 weeks pre-op for MVR and my physical condition was too poor -- I didn't have the energy for the trip to/from Dallas and going to the graduation.

Congratulations to your nephew, Marsha!

I can certainly relate. Our son is receiving his Graduate degree this Saturday, and we will be in attendance.:) Although he finished his course work a year ago this past December, it was only last May that he received his Bachelor's degree. I was less than three weeks away from my AVR, so I had mixed emotions throughout the ceremony. I wondered at the time if I would live long enough to attend any of the other milestones in my childrens lives, or if I were viewing the last one.
I am happy to say that I'm still here and kicking, so we will make the drive up on Saturday to watch him repeat it! He earned the Graduate degree in record time; three full semesters along with a summer session put him walking across the stage again!:)

I'll be thinking about you, and your nephew, on Saturday.:)

Wonderful news, Marsha. Thanks for sharing. Please congratulate him for me and I hope you have a great time at the graduation.

Congratulations Marsha and Mary- graduations are wonderful- enjoy them both!:)

While the valve surgeries put a damper on some of the fun before, you are around for the rest.:)

Yep!

About 2 weeks pre-op, I dragged myself off to Dallas-Fort Worth airport to see Ryan off on a group trip to Germany. I wouldn't get to see him again before my VR surgery and I was afraid I'd never seen him again -- in case "something happened," doncha know! His flight arrived late the night before my surgery and he was in the waiting room while I was in the OR.

I've asked my sister & brother-in-law if I can "buy" him from them. ;)

He sounds like a very "special" nephew and it is obvious that you are "special aunt" to him! Enjoy the graduation.

Marsha, I'm late as always...............
