Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to ask everyone here if they would say a prayer for my mother. She was visiting with me and my family here in Va, for the Thanksgiving. She ended up developing pneumonia and was admitted to the hospital tonight. Her WBC count was 28,000, the normal is usually 11,000. They think some bacteria has gotten into her bloodstream. She is seeing my doctor while she is visiting. He said that it is probably lucky that she went to see him today. If this would have been left untreated it could have killed her. My mother is a very stubborn lady and she didn't want to go to see a doctor. I pretty much forced her to go tonight. My doc thinks that two or three days of intravenous antibiotics should do the trick. I just pray everything goes well for her. She is a little upset with me right now for making her go to the hospital, but it is the best place for her. I want to have her back home with me and well for Thanksgiving. Please keep her in your prayers.

Thanks & Take Care!
Gail

Gail,
Sorry to hear about your Mom but I am grateful you were able force her to go in, good for you. Your family and your mom will be in our prayers.

Tell her to be patient!

Tell her to be patient!

Hi Gail. I'm sorry to hear that your mum has taken ill, but thank God you had the initiative to take her to the hospital in time. Tell her to hang in there and be a little patient. I'm sure that she'll be just fine now providing she stops being stubborn. I'll also add her in my prayers.

Moms are way too important not to pray for. Yours is in my prayers. Pneumonia isn't nice - I had it after surgery about 1 1/2 yrs ago and just wanted to leave here but they just told me 'no'. So here I am, and your mother will be here, too. And I bet you will treat so special come Thanksgiving - something to be thankful for. Please let us know how she gets on?

Gail,

I hope your mother is feeling better and will be home for Thanksgiving.

:)

My 83 year old father just got out of the hospital because of pneumonia and it was rough. The best to your mother and hope she is home for the holidays!

Update!

Update!

Thanks everyone for all of your thoughts and prayers. My mom is slowly getting better. Her WBC count went from 28,000 to 23,000 today. That is good. She looks a little better, but she still has quite a bit of congestion in her lungs. The doc thinks she will be there another day or two. Most likely two. I am hoping she will be home with us by around Tuesday. They have found some other treatable issues that her family doctor is going to have to address. She definitely has hyperthyroidism. They also told her that she is getting a cataract on her left eye. She had surgery for one on her right eye many many years ago. She didn't seem too surprised finding that out. You have to realize that my mother has been able to avoid any major blood work for many many years. Some how she has been able to convince her family doc that she doesn't want it and he doesn't do it. I think my doctor figures, he has her here in the hospital and he is really going to check her out while she is here. He will be sending his findings and suggestions to her family doctor. My mom's doc is actually a very good doctor, it is just that my mom just doesn't let him take care of her the way she should. I hope this experience changes that. Maybe now she will understand that her doctors are there to help her out. Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers. I will definitely let you know how she is doing.

Take Care!
Gail

Gail,

What an example of the Chinese translation of the word "crisis" and its translation to "opportunity". Thankfully, your mother had this opportunity to have a complete physical work up.

Too many times we get caught up in the routine of things and neglect our health. Whether it is feeling uncomfortable talking to the Doctor, intimidation, the God factor, embarrassment, or just plain fear.

At any rate, I am glad she is getting the medical attention she needs and is well in time for the holidays.
