My mother is having heart surgery at the moment and I am anxious, she is having an aortic valve replacement and possibly a bypass they are not sure about the latter. She is 84 years old and no other medical issues. Has anybody gone through the same experience?
Thanks a bunch.

Best wishes for a successful surgery and uneventful recovery for your mother. If she has no other medical conditions, I would hope that the valve replacement would go well. She might have a little longer recovery time but maybe not. Please let us know how she is doing post-op.

My mother in law had an aortic valve replacement at the same age as your mother. All went well and so did her recovery.

A distant relative's mother was 84 when she had two valves replaced. She was very energetic with no other health issues. Her speedy recovery amazed us all. She went back to her normal social life and activities within three days. The surgery was eight years ago!

Wish your mom's surgery will have the same successful effect!

Keep us posted.

Try not to be so anxious. I know it's easier said than done but I've heard of elderly patients that underwent OHS and/or other very serious heart surgeries, who did wonderfully well with their surgeries and subsequent recoveries. My nephew's ex-MIL underwent a heart transplant two or three years ago in her early to mid-80's, and she's doing fine to date.

Please let us know how everything went when you can. Take care.
